Anyone know what type of radios NCSHP uses in their vehicles as well as portables? Also, why do they use a telephone type handset for the in car radio They have used them since the late 70s it seems...
And never a scuff on the backside near the earpiece either. No one uses them for that anymore
That's a different storyAnd never a scuff on the backside near the earpiece either.

The old 800 MHz data system was shut down a few years ago. I put tons of those modems in local law enforcement cars years ago...As best I can recall, it is APX 6000s for portables and APX 6500s for mobiles (with the telephone handset).
As a for what it is worth.... Mobile computers are using cell/LTE aircards. I'm thinking the older 800 mhz mobile data system is a thing of the past.

Not many even know how to use the "Signal 3 Switch" anymore...Handsets - Privacy
Its not that they don't know how. It's so easy a caveman can do it. In modern times, there is no need. The old days of bringing a violator to the car and have a seat inside are long gone...Not many even know how to use the "Signal 3 Switch" anymore...
They are still there because that's how it's always been.
I've actually rode with troopers before, the radio runs through a speaker like in a standard patrol car. Unless it's toggleable between speaker and handset, I've never seen suchThey used the handsets to keep the person(s) of interest to keep from hearing wants and warrants
That's actually a question I want to know the answer to as well.??? Why would they renew( the State SHP) renew some lowband freqs. Renewed 42.50/42.52/42.60/42.64/154.680/456.3. Date 3/19/21 Boone, NC

We may have...We've crossed paths before.
I spent about 10 years on "E Market St, in Greensboro.
