If I were to set up a favorites list for NCSHP Troop F Dist 2 which is TG 52190, along with sites Deep Gap mtn, Doughton mtn, Green mtn, Jefferson mtn, Phoenix mtn and Pores Knob. Would that allow me to hear dispatch as well as cars? Also would I only need to program the control and alternate control channels for these site? The unit i'm using is a Hp1 and the zipcode scanning seems extremely inefficient.

As long as you are receiving the talk group you will hear both sides of the conversation.

It's been my experience that the SHP talk groups get carried on every tower throughout the entire troop area, regardless of division.

Correction, sitting here monitoring I'm noticing that's not always the case, but a lot of times it is. Either way, only put the tower(s) for the area you frequent)

LOL

I guess the other 25 threads you asked these same questions in didn't answer this question effectively enough. I'm normally a patient guy, but this is just outta hand. Asking the same question in different threads or with different user names is not gonna change the facts or method of how you monitor what you want to hear.

One last time.

All you need to do is find a tower or two that you can receive and enter the control and alts. If it makes you feel better , enter all the freqs. It won't hurt anything.

Then enter the TGID (in this case 52190) and you can hear SHP dispatch and cars.

Yes, as has been stated many times zip code scanning can be used but if you are stationary it is inefficient.

Finally got the Hp1 set up to my liking, programmed in some favorites list, added a Centerfire vhf/uhf multiband external antenna, with 50ft Rg6 quad shield coax. The Hp1 really came to life then. i'm able to hear the systems i have programmed for NC, as well as VIPER, Grayson county,Va and Va. STARS..

As you'll hear often on these pages, an external antenna (with good coax) and additional antenna height are probably the two best and easiest things to do to improve reception. Glad to hear that it's working better for you.
