I've been out of town for work for the past several months so I am living under a rock now, but has anyone noticed any new activity on the new Dallas P25 system?

Any patching or anything going on between the current conventional frequencies and the P25 or SmartNet system that is happening more recently?

I believe I read something late last year or earlier this year saying the transition is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021, so I wouldn't be shocked to see some sort of patching or something going on..

Mostly just curious if any of the law channels or fire channels are being patched.

They have several new sites, all the way out to Emory. Asked the Cities RM if those rural sites would air the whole system and he was undecided. As far as TG's, so far what's in the DB or on someone's secret spreadsheet.

The end of 2021 is also what I recall hearing. Whether they actually meet that deadline is anybody's guess.

So far, I have not seen patches between the Dallas LG analog system & the new system. At some point, I would expect to see at least some patches, as individual departments and their members begin the shift, The only PD channel I've seen patched is the Channel 12 (Fair Park & Special Events) that occasionally has been patched both into the LG system, and also to TGID 60029 when Tx DPS was assisting on specific high crime areas.

Those outlying sites are at Dallas Water Utilities locations. I would be mildly surprised if they carry anything other than DWU operations, & possibly Interop. Those sites do not have enough voice channel capacity to carry any substantial amount of traffic from the main system.

Are you the city of Dallas radio manager Steve? Are you they guy deciding what Dallas is or is not going to do with it's system? I didn't think so. Without the system blueprint laid out in front of you you cannot determine what the system is even going to look like, cover or carry. The plan was for Dallas all services, Dallas SO and outlying towns. You have already ruled the towns out because they have jumped on GMRS. That really isn't even a fair judgement call as ANY subscriber can just as easily jump off one system and go to another.

Those small sites at Hunt and Rains might just be control channels and we have not yet seen voice channel licenses yet. For a scanner guy you seem to have such a closed mind to the possibilities.

At last check there was just a handful of talkgroups on the system, they still of the logistical nightmare of moving everyone from V/UHF to the 700. Furthermore, Southern Regional NXDN was only a band-aid for those cities, you cannot rule out them jumping on when they system is fully built and less than Wilmer, Hutchins or anyone else joining. Who knows, Dallas Red Cross could go on this, Dallas CERT and even RACES could all have groups you cannot stand there with your ratty SDS and say who is and who isn't going on it because until the system fully hits the air live none of us know who the users will be and what the level of encryption will be.

Maybe you should apply for a job with the Dallas radio shop since your all knowing on all of this.

Steve, were all just Scanner guys. We are not politicians (I think). Were all good at speculating but none of us are experts, If we were we wouldn't be posting in the forums we'd be on our million dollar yacht's in the Med. It's easy for us to sit on the sidelines and throw guesses out there and sometimes they're right but often they are not. Take for example, I was told by a Collin County Constable that I often have lunch with that PAWMCO was to be fully encrypted on the LE side. I posted that here even. He and I were both wrong. Who knows what these shifty governments are going to do from day to day. Look at our Nation and it's push to disarm and defund Police. The people running the cities change their minds like we change frequencies. Some of us know people and even those folks change what they tell us each week because their bosses change stuff.

None of us know who is or isn't goin on these systems. Sure it makes for good forum discussion but at the end of the day it's not up to us, we just can only tune in and wait and see.

You bring a lot of good info to the table and help the new guys a lot. I'm sure you know a thing or two more than I. The Dallas radio manager is a savvy dude, He knows a few things. He built the NCTCOG system and prior was the guy who had Careflite on the Oncor/TXU EDACS system. He is super tight with Police & Fire chiefs around the metroplex so I am in the belief the system will be loaded down with more than any of us expect.

Hell I can't spell Fire sometimes so I'm no one special. Just keep an open mind on the who and what's of the Dallas system.

Thank GOD RadioReference don't have chat rooms ....

I applaud Steve for his information. I greatly appreciate his ability to convey his thoughts and messages in a polite and measured response. That is one thing I admire about Steve. He has been a friend for many years. Thank you Steve for all you've done over the years. I don't consider everyone to be an "expert" within this forum, not by a long shot. I consider him to be someone with information I can trust. I cannot say that about everyone I've encountered in the forums arena. I am waiting with great anticipation for Dallas to join this century relative to radio communications.

I also love it when people get straight to the point instead of meandering all over God's creation to express a point.

Steve, please keep me in the loop regarding this new system.

I will. Periodically, I run a discovery session on the system to see if anything new drops in. I'm also keeping an eye on the Ellis County layer of FWRRS. I expect more Ellis County & Waxahachie talkgroups to show up as they get new radios (or reprogrammed ones) for various departments. Ennis will be joining, and they have been checking coverage with handhelds for their PD. Palmer is also slated to join, and the latest comments I found in the posted agendas for the Glenn Heights city council hint that they may also throw their hat in the ring.

Yes, Steve is a wealth of information, Yes Steve helps a bunch of people. Sure, Steve is probably a nice guy and deserving of a cup of coffee. But He, Nor I nor anyone else can predetermine what the Dallas system is going to look like or how it will operate. Its closed minded to say it won't do this or some users won't be going on it when the thing is in its infancy (still in the womb) and barely kicking off the RSSI on the far north side of the city.

How many systems have we all seen where subscribers jump on and off? Look at who is running the show, Dallas City Council? Those people want Motorola to move to S. Dallas and hand out free cellphones. This is exactly why Dallas is still operating on a 1970's radio system today.

Shame me all you want, BLM me and cancel me, IDGAF! Its too early to be judging what's going to be on that system or if we'll even be able to monitor it.

Good riddance. I used to be quite an annoying individual within these forums. After a few RR consequences, I reformed my ways. Of course, the Lamictal helped a whole lot, LOL.

Very strange. He provided a lot of good info in the last several years and without attitude. So weird.

Well, we never know what is behind the scenes in the lives of others. Whatever the reason, I hope his life condition improves. Life is too short. For the most part, participants are decent folks. He seems like someone who "externalizes" their problems. If you are in the line of fire, friction sometimes occurs. So, let's all buckle down and work together for our common cause, making the DB accurate as possible.

Talked to a couple guys in Dallas OEM recently who said they should be shifting over to P25 Phase II at some point. As far as they know the difficulty is in replacing all the analog stuff with brand new digital stuff. The analog system has been around so long everything is completely entrenched.

Agreed, that was odd. Seemed like a good dude over the years and had a lot of North Texas submissions that were good quality. I hope he cools down and gets back to his old self.
