NE ohio: ODNR sure is worried about us listening to them

I find it weird that talkgroup 27056, listed in the MARCS page as an ODNR 'Call NE' talkgroup, uses full time encryption.

The site I was monitoring was portage county 898.9875 as the primary control channel.

These guys must think their operations are Miami Vice or something.

More of our tax dollars at work under the guise 'homeland security'

Encrypted communications would have never prevented 9/11.

Frow what I have heard and seen so far, all of ODNR is going to be encrypted everywhere in the state, not sure about OSP but I imagine that that's not far off.

I get OSP in my area fine (although they are dispatched through MDT's which is ok for my listening desires since the big stuff (Chases, DUI, or reckless drivers etc.) they have to talk about on the air since I can imagine its hard to chase someone and type on an MDT).

However! I noticed on a trip that a mobile unit from the circleville post was encrypted, yet the responses back from the dispatcher were unencrypted. Kinda interesting.

I would be really bummed if OSP went to totally encryption like Florida State Highway patrol did.

From day one, ODNR Enforcement talkgroups have been said to be full-time encryption. The maintenance ones are all in the clear. From time to time you may hear one or two field officers in che clear. But, when that happens, they're usually just chit-chatting. Columbus dispatch is encrypted half the time and in the clear the other half.

ODNR does more than you think. And yes they have very good reasons for not wanting people to listen especially while working with BCI&I. They are a key player in narcotic erad programs.

You mean Columbus dispatch for OSP or ONDR or both?? When will the patrol switch completely over to the 9600 system.

Personally , I think the dnr needs to sramble their stuff even more than the Osp.
Osp most of the time deals with traffic...most of the time.
DNR runs the gambit on just bout anything outdoors where more folks are likely to be armed.
