I heard that a new repeater has been put up in Grove that's supposed to work really well. Anybody have any info on it?

I have been using the OK Repeater Society website to find sites in Ottawa and Delaware counties, anybody know of some other sites that can be utilized?

Or if someone that is local on here can provide an accurate listing for active repeaters in both counties, it would be much appreciated?

See the links at the bottom of Amateur Radio - The RadioReference Wiki

Some of the online repeater databases are a joke. Some of them have repeaters listed that have not existed for decades and there are probably repeaters on the air that are not listed. Oklahoma Repeater Society seems to have an up to date list for the SW part of the state. It's one of the better ones.

You will have to decide for yourself what data is good in your area.

Thanks for the links Tom. :)

Hopefully a local in the know will chime in.

I would be more than willing to share my "active" local list for my neck of woods if needed.

ORSI updates every quarter so it's not always on top of the latest info. However, it just so happens that I was the Net Control Operator for the Thursday night ARES net on the NE OK wide-area UHF system and a member of the Grand Lake Amateur Radio Association checked in with the info on that repeater. Below is the info --

147.285, PL 110.9

The station that checked in said the repeater was working all four states up in that corner. It is a Yaesu System Fusion repeater but it's operating in dual mode to pass both analog and digital.

Well, I already had it. I can hit it with my HT and receive it full scale from my QTH, (with a Diamond X-50 base antenna 25 feet or so in the air with a 50 foot run of LMR400). I had it programmed as a 2 meter Miami repeater, since ORSI has it listed that way. Did a tone search and got the 110.9 PL, since ORSI did not list one. Thanks so much for clarifying it's location for me!

I can hit the UHF Miami repeater, but can only receive it at an S1. However, I have heard that repeater is not mounted very high though. I can also hit the 146.985 in Rose (Delaware County), with an S5 on receive. I figure Craig and Mayes counties would be a stretch, so I haven't even tried any of those (yet).

Any chance you might know which repeater that GLARA member was using to check into your net?

Since the net was being conducted on the Tulsa Amateur Radio Club UHF Super-link System, I expect he was on the Ketchum repeater: 444.875, 88.5 PL. It has excellent coverage around the entire Grand Lake area and is a full-time link throughout NE OK. TARC - Tulsa Amateur Radio Club Choose "Repeater Systems" to see all the locations in the system with frequencies and PL tones.

Assuming the Mayes County group has fixed their problems of a year ago, their antenna is mounted very high so you might have some success. The same thing applies to the Vinita area repeaters that are on a tall GRDA tower. One of them is a dual-mode Yaesu System Fusion but I don't know which one for certain.

Well, I can receive the Decatur machine at an S3 and I can only make the repeater on an intermittent basis. Threw my call out a few times and was only able to activate the repeater twice. Obviously 5 watts is not going to be enough to make that repeater on a consistent basis, but it is promising for when I acquire 2m/440 mobile base in the near future! At least I hope it will, would really enjoy being able to make the count on your net one day :D

The Ketchum machine is completely out of reach for me at this time.

Sure would be awesome if the TARC-WALS would expand into Ottawa and Delaware Counties, it would bring Southwest Missouri stations into the system for sure.

Checked the Mayes repeaters and both Pryor machines are out of reach and the Chouteau machine is out as well, at least with my present 5 watt station.

I can hit the 2m Vinita machine, but can only receive it at an S1 - (147.360). I also tried the 444.375 UHF machine there, but could not hit it. Did receive at an S2 on it though. If you happen hear more about the dual-mode YSF one you mentioned and its not one of the two I tried, please let me know.

Anyhow, thanks for all the information, the TARC site has been bookmarked.

Just picked up the 2m Pryor CW ID at an S1 with a lot of noise though, can not still hit the repeater though.

Also heard the Decatur, AR repeater ID at an S3 with the TARC-WALS recording.

I've hit the Decatur repeater from the mobile in my SUV in McDonald and Newton Counties in MO. It was real marginal by around Neosho, though.

Yeah, I am hoping 50 watts or less and my an outdoor antenna will do the trick in the future....

If you find yourself out my way holler at me on the Neosho machine or the Granby machine. :)

My mother-in-law lives in Sand Springs (Prattville side)....I'll do the same next time I am over that way.

Thanks for all your help.

Took advantage pf propagation tonight and made the count in the Mayes County Amateur Radio Club net on the Pryor 2m repeater. Pretty cool I think, considering it was on my HT running 5 watts to an outdoor antenna and the repeater is about 75 miles away in Pryor! :D

Best I ever did on a 5-W HT (to an indoor discone) was +/- 90 miles from Fayetteville, Ark, to a repeater in or near Springfield, Mo. When the band is open it doesn't take much. With 100 W and a 10-el beam, I've worked into New England on 2 m SSB, but that's a whole other thing. :-D

And make sure you don't use crappy coax - get RG8 or better. Even at 144 MHz, you lose too much with RG58.

Cool!!

I am using a 50 foot run of LMR 400 to a Diamond X-50 about 25 feet AGL.

That's what I'm using, too. Good stuff. Well, now. When I worked that repeater with an HT, I was connected to the discone with about 20' of RG8X ...

Propagation must have been awesome that day! I don't even have anything that far programmed into my HT. Pryor is probably the western most repeater in my memory bank. At 90 miles I would be hitting the east edge of Tulsa I am guessing....now that would be an accomplishment. You done good that day for sure!

Looking forward to getting my base rig soon and being a regular check in on the Tulsa TARC linked net by getting into the Decatur, AR UHF machine. Maybe even having rag-chews with some NE OK guys. :)
