Noticed the state has a blanket type of license for 4.9GHz now.
Callsign is WQFH558, and it covers 4940.000 to 4990.000.

That sounds like it's a data link for the 800 system. I read somewhere that the LATIE system is going to have 4.9 Ghz on their
system also. The LATIE system is going to be on 700 Mhz.

Other than the fact the 4.9GHz license is mobiles and temporary fixed locations. Not to mention its not to certain freqs. They did the same thing as the state.

They use microwave to go from point to point within the trunking system. http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=1032826

I'm not sure how effective 4.9GHz would be for such applications, I would like to see how it works out.

The 4.9 GHz public safety band is mainly used by wideband 802.* type stuff including MDTs.
Licenses are for the entire band in a geographical area instead of the familiar site based discrete frequency VHF/UHF licenses .
