What type of mutual Aid system do YOU think the state of Nebraska should have.

I say use the existing state owned radio towers and cross band 800Mhz (ICall/Itac), VHF-High Band (VCall/Vtac, 155.475, 155.370), UHF (Ucall/Utac), and Nebraska's Low Band (39.9, 39.98, and 39.82). This way everyone in Nebraska can talk to each other.

Go to bed Nate! =p

Many departments use the current system in place because they find it "acceptable" and more than likely lack the required amount of funding to change this.

While our current protocols and systems work, we do need to improve upon these.

We should also maintain and keep such things as low-band. It's a system already paid for and has been proven to work time and time again.

The state should get more low band frequencies if they are going stay on low band. Three statewide frequencies are not enough.

I don’t think it should be the state’s responsibility. The problem is too many fire departments and police departments that are on low-band just happen to be on and use the mutual aid freqs. The individual departments themselves need to migrate to new freqs, while still retaining the mutual aid freqs in their channel line up. This would free up the mutual aid stuff for actual mutual aid needs.

But again cost becomes an issue. If you are going to pay to have a new license and reprogram radios, would this be the right time to make the move and jump to VHF or UHF, or continue to wait on low-band?

Ah, if only someone would have had a uniform plan a long time ago. =\
(other than, “I think it’ll work for now…”)

Good Luck on your test Nate.

I'm say it is the state's responsibility for mutual aid frequencies. Yes the departments that use the mutual aid frequencies for normal dispatch should get off of them. Butler county simulcast the dispatch side of their UHF channel on 39.9 and I believe that Polk county does the same thing.

Yeah I totally agree... it's a nightmare!

Ha, would be funny if a ham like you would do the same thing, say dump RF from a repeater output onto say the national simplex freq like 146.52 I think it is. It's about the same thing.

you know they really tick me off when they sit on 146.52 .... it was meant to be a calling freq then move elsewhere... oh well...

You mean like how you're not suppose to use Q signals on phone, and some people use 15khz channel spacing while older guys still use 20, and no one seems to have the same band plan. But yeah. That's why I dont listen to that stuff on my scanner.

Seems like the band was up last night and somewhat today too, I can hear stuff from distant agencies even VHF not just low-band.
