High-Speed Chase Starts In Neb., Ends In Colo.
Weld County sheriff's deputies and Ault police were called in to assist Nebraska authorities chasing a man in a pickup truck from Kimball, Neb., into northeast Colorado early Monday morning.
Colorado authorities said they did not know why the man was being chased, but the pursuit ended about eight miles south of the border on Colorado Highway 71 near New Raymer.
According to the Weld County Sheriff's Department, the driver of the 1992 Ford pickup ended up in a ditch and fled on foot shortly before dawn. Authorities said he was armed with a rifle.
Authorities said they found ammunition and methamphetamine in the abandoned pickup, which was registered in Iowa.
Weld County used reverse-911 to warn residents in the area about the armed suspect.
UPDATE:
Suspect was taken into custody around 7:10 am this morning and transported to the Weld County jail. His name has not been released at this time. Charges are pending.
