Hello all,

I'm going to try this post, hoping someone can help clarify a snag I've ran into using the Sentinel programing software for a new Uniden SDS100. I downloaded and got onto Sentinel to make a "favorites" list for the scanner, which seems for the most part fairly simple. However, When i went to Colorado and chose my County and made a favorites list, added the county to the favorites list, and went to double check i created it and added my county i hit a snag. When i added my county to the favorites list it also loaded all the "sites" along with the county and its contents. I assume the "sites" are the Radio towers as they show frequencies when i click on my closest "site". My question is this, I know the Sites around my area, and most likely the agency's will run off those towers. So, is it ok to just ignore that they will all be loaded onto the scanner even though the mass majority of them are far away? Or would i be ok either deleting the sites i know are far away from my favorite's list or "avoiding them"? No matter what i do when just choosing the county, it loads all the sites as well on my favorties list. I'm unsure if its fine to leave them, or if its safe to delete/Avoid them, or if thats important to keep them due to the states system. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

You are also getting responses in your other thread:

As you have observed, Sentinel adds all of the sites for the system when you append to a favorite list. You will only want to scan sites that are within range. You will want to either Delete or Avoid the sites you don't wish the scanner to waste time trying to pick up. (Many recommend avoiding the unwanted sites rather than deleting them.)

To simplify the process to avoid the unwanted sites:
  1. Shift select to select all sites in the system.
  2. Control-L to avoid everything selected.
  3. Then un-avoid the desired sites.

I'll add: An alternative is to enable Location Control for the Favorites List and enter your location. The out-of-range sites will be automatically avoided.

Hello RMason,

The scanner i purchased has a "Zip Code Function". Is that basically the exact same thing as the "Location Control" function, when used? I just feel like just using the zip code function may not pick up a few channels i would like to scan as well, hence why I'm trying to figure out how to make my own list so i don't miss out on some stuff.

Yes - the Zip Code Function is used to set your location when Location Control is used.

There are multiple ways to achieve what you are trying to do - select what sites you scan:
  • Avoid unwanted sites
  • Delete unwanted sites
  • Use Location Control to avoid unwanted sites
My personal preference is to avoid the unwanted sites. This keeps the sites programmed in the scanner (at the expense of some clutter). They can be reenabled in the future if desired for some reason with minimal reprogramming. This method lets you directly control what you are scanning.

You may want to try multiple approaches and see what works best for you.
