Hello, I am in the market for a mobile antenna for my Uniden 296D 800 mhz Digital hand held scanner. I want one that mounts to the top of my truck with that magnetic base. I don't want to spend any more than $50. Can anyone suggest a good one? There is one on Scannermaster.com called a Comtelco all-band low profile. Is comtelco a good brand? Please let me know what you suggest. Thank You.

Totally confused, need help.

Ok, I have been reading multiple posts about a good mobile antenna. I now realize that there are a TON of companies that sell great antennas. I basically want a good antenna that will pick up digital 800Mhz and 140.000-160.000mhz bands. What is the right kind of cable to get with it? I read RG-58 double coated. Some one please help! I am so confused.

Macomb Monitor, thank you for the suggestion. I will consider that one.

There's only 1 common cable with higher loss than RG58, but for 15 feet, even at 850 MHz, the loss is only 2.1db (less than half the signal), so it's acceptable. The coating or shielding doesn't change the loss. Using "quad shielded" cable for a scanner is a waste of money if you pay any extra for the extra shielding.
