When the scanner uses analog channels it has a high pass filter in the audio that cuts everything below 250Hz. It's used to remove the CTCSS/DCS tones. I digital systems the scanner do not use that filter and the audio have full range that includes everything below 250Hz and the audio then becomes more bassy. Uniden could easily change this to always include the 250Hz filter even in digital systems, as most people feels that the audio are too bassy. Maybe @JoeBearcat can take a look at it.

Correct, and that is one reason only the latest firmware is available. Too many people were using incompatible (or flawed) firmware and losing the ability to use their scanners. There are some reports of that happening here on RR.
I agree, and I can't imagine all the grief that's created for Uniden and their customers. It's unfortunate that they ever allowed that to be possible. Uniden had the ability to prevent it. If there was a justifiable reason to allow previous firmware to be installed, they could have handled it as needed. Unfortunately some users think newer firmware is the answer to all their problems. Sometimes it creates new problems or removes desirable features.

I will add that to the wish list. As you say, it should be easy to do. As for the why, because it's been that way since the first digital scanners. The high pass filter was not needed although I don't recall if it was included for the old Smartnet trunked systems that use subaudible signalling.

The latest firmware corrects the P25 decode problem.

That's what I'm using, It might have fixed 171-173 but I lost 453 decode, it will sometimes decode it but very spotty since the upgrade
Nothing changed in the scanner and it's a channel that worked fine before the upgrade.

You probably should not be using any firmware from that page. They were meant for the BCD996P2 (U.S. version), which is not the same as your UBC996P2.

That page also contains a warning even with the proper radio, BCD996P2:
Please check your scanner's serial number before updating.

If your scanner's serial number starts with 378A, be sure to use ONLY this (or newer) version. The scanner will stop working using earlier versions.
If your scanner's serial number starts with 378Z, you can update to this (or newer) versions (again for the BCD, not the UBC models)
So where can i download 1.09.12 ? there was a link but thats no good. it only gives the newest firmware bin. yes i have 378Z

Download BC_VUP3 and run it.

All firmware updates are applied using BC_VUP3. Download BC_VUP3 Firmware Updater for DMA Scanners, unzip the file, then run the installer to install this utility. Then, run the utility and follow the on-screen prompts to select the scanner model and firmware version to apply.

I was hoping someone would have a copy of 1.08 for 996p2 serial#378Z? Received 1.10 software in my old stock scanner and p25 decode is so bassy it's hard to understand.
