Well, I have my decision almost set in stone, but still have a couple questions that I need some help on. If these are answered somewhere else, please let me know and I'll do further research. But here goes:

1) The place I want to set up my scanner is not as visually accessable as I would like so does the win500 software allow me to virtually see what is being received on the scanner on a computer monitor?

2) In regards to objects, does each talkgroup and associated frequencies (perse an agency in Michigan that is utilizing the state digital system) count as 1 object?

3) In regards to question #1, is there software that will allow the same thing to be done for a GRE400 scanner?

I want to thank anyone that can provide me these answers in advance, I'm trying to read all I can to understand it, but was a little lost in these areas.

Once again thanks in advance.

. . .

Yes. Win500 will allow you to monitor and control your GRE500 using your computer or any computer on your network. Win500 has provisions for remote monitoring & controlling over the internet. DonS recently added a PocketPC remote monitoring client that allows the scanner to be monitored and controlled from devices using windows mobile 5.0 or newer. I think he has some screen shots at his site: Win 500.

From what I understand, yes.

2) In regards to objects, does each talkgroup and associated frequencies (perse an agency in Michigan that is utilizing the state digital system) count as 1 object?

No. The TSYS, which contains the control channel frequencies is one object (that in the case of the MPSCS takes up 10 Object blocks of data). Each individual talkgroup is an object.

3) In regards to question #1, is there software that will allow the same thing to be done for a GRE400 scanner?

The GRE PSR-400 cannot be remote controlled, and it also is not able to decode digital, so it wouldn't work on the MPSCS.

Thank you for the answers that have been provided, it does let me know that I can do what I was hoping that I could do. Planning to use the GRE500 in both my vehicle and home locations (which will save me some bucks), while using my computer to virtually control and see what I'm listening too.

Did realize that the GRE400 will not do digital, was planning to have that as a replacement for an older regency 30 ch scanner that I'm now using and has just about seen it's day. But was hoping that it could be monitored remotely on my computer screen, but from what I've read that is impossible to do.

I want to thank all for the responses I've received so far and if anyone else has other items that I might want to consider I'm all ears. I enjoy RR because I've learn so much and continue to learn from each post that I read or from comments received from posts I have placed.
