Hello: Got a brand new Kenwood D-710G under the Christmas tree and have been exploring many of it's functions...This one has me stumped; How do I set, let's say, Band A to a frequency of 131.550 (AM) to monitor aircraft digital transmissions (ACARS)...I cannot get either Band down into the aviation area...Please consider step by step directions as I am deep into the confusion area!! Thanks a lot!

Look in the manual for selecting a frequency band. Good chance the default is to mask the bands receivable outside of 2m and 70cm. I was looking in my non-G manual to find the information. It included a brief comment of why they are masked.

See page 20 of the TM-D710GA manual. Press F then press either the A band or B band volume knobs (known as BAND SEL) to cycle through the bands.

The A band will cycle from 144 to 220 to 300 to 440 to 118 (air band) to 144.

The B band will cycle from 440 to 1200 to 144 to 220 to 300 to 440.

You can only receive AM (air band) on the A band of the radio.

Note that if you've set programmable VFO limits (TX/RX Menu 100), you will not be able to select a frequency outside of the limits.
