I have a new DT3 system that I found in the recent grants for my area, and found that 5 out of the 7 frequencies are active. 1 control channel and 4 voice channels. I set all freqs lcn's to 0 and run the lcn finder, but every time I do that, it comes up with different numbers. Below are the frequencies and what I've gotten for lcn's with the bcd436HP. The system this is WPLT757, Beau Rivage Resorts, LLC.

935.1875 - 3025, 216, 2427, 1067, 3515, 168, 56, 656, 2317, 2061, 2319, 256
935.7625 - 2097,2061,384,2317
936.1375 - 468
936.3875 - 2124, 2111
939.5125 - None found yet.
939.7500 - 2380

Why would each time I run lcn finder on these frequencies, it comes up with a different lcn? Has anyone else had this problem with one of your systems?

Could I program it as a DMR1F system, and then program the 4 frequencies separately to receive all the talkgroups for all freqs?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is their activity (voice traffic) on the system? If so, run it in conventional search and copy the color code(s) down. Then reprogram the frequencies with color codes, and run an LCN Analyze session again.

I have already run all the freqs conventionally, and all of them have been active and all displayed DT3, NFM, Color 11, Net 16, Site 9.

All of the above lcn searches had the color code set to 11.

Are you able to trunk track after 5 of 7 are found?

Whenever I do a lcn finder, I usually only pick up 2 or 3 of them and have never gotten more than that at any one time. When I do pick up voice on the system, there is no way of finding out which frequency is being used because it doesn't display it. I think I might do the DMR1F system that doesn't require lcn's and set the delay a little longer to hear replies.

The lcn of 2061 has come up 4 times in 4 different lcn searches on 935.7625, and lcn 2111 has come up twice on 936.3875, and using a DT3 lcn calculator, those would be correct, so I'm going to calculate the others and try that out. Thanks for all the help, werinshades.

I just don't know why everytime I run the lcn finder, it comes up with different lcn's for the same freq.

sounds like you are on the fringe of the system and not getting clean decode. When I BROKE 2 systems like this I drove near the sites and spent several hours near the site.

You are right! Where I live, I get the system sporatically, but where I work is a lot closer and pick it up better. All of the lcn searches have been from work, but only for a maximum of about 4 hours. That's why there are so many searches that I've done. In the near future, I plan on getting REAL close to it and run lcn finder again for as long as I can and see if I get different results. I also programmed it into a DMR1F system with all frequencies separated, so if it works, I should be able to see which freqs are being used for. I also have a TRX-1 that I take with me with the freqs entered in conventionally, so hopefully I can figure this out. Thanks Buddrousa for your input.

base is 910.0 and step is 12.5 kHz. Then (freq - base) / step = LCN

935.1875 2015
935.7625 2061
936.1375 2091
936.3875 2111
939.6125 2361
939.7500 2380

Yeap, that's the exact ones that I programmed in today. I will check them out in the next few days at work and see if it picks anything up. I'm bringing 2 scanners with me, the 436HP and the TRX-1 for comparison. Thanks for verifying them pro92b.

I know that those are the assumed freqs, but does anyone use custom or non-standard lcn's for their systems? Or do they have to comply with a certain standard? I heard they can pretty much use anything they want.

Just throwin' it out there...

One of the local (to me) radio shops converted their older CON+ system over to CapMax TIII...

I ran everything through DSD+ when determining LCN's, then used the "TIII LCN Calculator" to find the "adjusted" location for the LCNS in my Uniden BCD436's.... EVERY TIME I attempted to use the LCN Finder on the radios; they NEVER came out correctly located. On the local Cap+ & Con+ sites; LCN Finder works great... but, with the CapMax stuff; I've never had any luck... YMMV

Yes, most DMR radios can be programmed to use any LCN you like for each time slot and don't need to follow a bandplan. I've seen that a system can send out info over the air with a new frequency and new LCN for a site to be programmed in radios. But I don't really know why anyone would like to do that and not follow the standard bandplan.

I've also noted the Unidens LCN finder can show different LCN's for the same frequency but using the LCN calculator often solves that problem. The new firmware to be released are supposed to have better digital decode performance so hopefully it will result in a better functional LCN finder.

Thanks Ubbe. When do you think the new firmware will be available, and are they beta testing it like that have been before with the late great Upman? Is there a central spot to monitor all the updates?

Hey n8yid:
Have you tried the SDS100 lcn finder? Is it any better than the one in the 436? I've been thinking of getting one and that will be a good reason if the finder works better.
