• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Need guidance for programming 6550 and 7550e on DMR with CPS2

Maybe each zone should really be a state, all repeaters in one state in one zone? What say you?

I would strongly recommend keeping your zones to 24 channels or less, most of my zones are 16ch or less. Spinning the dial gets old FAST.

For my analogue simplex zone, I actually broke it up into 2 zones, 146MHz and 147MHz. I also have a zone of 16 simplex DMR channels.

Keep in mind, your scan lists are 15 channels plus your selected channel.

OK, I like this idea better than one zone per state as I originally planned. Keeps the channel count down to manageable levels. (<30)

Thank you both for your help.

No problem. You have LOTS of zones. Like I said, I'm at 34 for my XPR5550. Keeping them small makes it much easier to find the channel you want. Also keep in mind, that the radio will display the zones in alphabetical order, regardless of the order in CPS. I added a number at the beginning to be able to have the zones in the order I wanted them in the radio.

Help!, Finally got some free time to begin adding additional repeaters but I'm stuck. The original CP had Zone 3 as "channel Pool" with one simplex frequency. I have been able to add four talk groups to this zone for a local Northern KY repeater but can't find a means of editing the zone name nor adding additional zones. One 1 is my hotspot and zone 2 is the local K8BIG repeater.

OK, the blind hog finally found the acorn. I figured how to add zones now so all I need is to edit the name of zone 3 "channel pool"

Thanks to all. Finally figured I could keep pushing channel pool down the list and adding zones above it. There's one frequency in that "zone" that can't be deleted so will just leave it alone. Now that I've got the zones created just need to populate each one with frequencies and talk groups.

Happy New Year to all and thank you so much for your help.

I have both ham and commercial radios, and FPP on the amateur units can be very useful in situations where only a couple of changes or additions need to be made. Take a look at the RFinder DMR for what is advertised as the easiest for adding contacts with no CPS needed.

I did research the RFinder, read the QST review and queried google to read other reviews. Cost was a big turnoff to me. There is an identical unit (or units) available without the RFinder name at nearly half the price. I love the concept but that is 200% over the cost for my new Motorola 7550e. For me, I can learn CPS 2.0 and program my own handheld which has the best DMR audio of any radio I have had experience with and still have money in my wallet.

As I, and others have said, it doesn't show up in your radio when you push the code plug to it. Every item in the CP tree has a single default item in it. This is normal.

Happy New Year to all and thank you so much for your help.

Happy New Year to you as well. Enjoy your new radio. I love my 7550.
