Hey everyone, happy to say after having to move and about a year of getting our stuff together ive got my feed back up for Pulaski County. Been monitoring a few days and noticing I am not hearing any traffic for Saint Robert or Waynesville. Now waynesville may be an antenna issue. But I am seeing on the DB that Saint Robert has moved to a new digital system?

I guess I am needing a few things. I am trying to determine if I can set my system up to monitor this new system. The radio we are using is the Uniden BCD996P2. I know it will do some trunk systems as it is monitoring MO HYPO. I know the new system ST Robert is on can be done on my radio w an upgrade but the DB also mentions a P25 Simulcast Repeater.

If anyone can assist me id greatly appreciate the help. Id love to get this and any other new systems added to the radio so they are available on the feed. Now that we have purchased a home I expect to have the feed up for a long time going fwd.

The BCD996XT will for sure handle the states P25 digital system. It's called MOSWIN. There is a ton of radio traffic in your area and surrounding counties. That part...no problem.

Some counties around you are using DMR and NXDN systems. For them you will need an upgrade. If you have never hear a digital system on your scanner before it's like night and day.

On occasion I visit Laclede and Dallas counties. I can receive transmissions from about 10 counties with a very old outside antenna.

I am sure you will get other responses that will be better than mine. Good luck. I will be listening.

Thanks for the info. Def looking for any help I can get to program anything else that would be valuable into my radio.

But specifically asking how I can do the Saint Robert system. It's on NXDN but apparently has a P25 repeater. I'm assuming I can program that without the upgrade?

St Robert PD is still on the same legacy system they've always used, with plans to move to P25 but not sure whether it will be on MOSWIN or their own system *some license changes suggest their own simulcast system*.
St Robert fire has been using NXDN some but mostly county fire.

Odd. I wonder why I haven't heard any St Robert traffic then. I guess it's possible it's an antenna issue but I'm JUST getting Pulaski South and I'm fairly close to Saint Robert.

So is the P25 repeater set up mentioned on the DB something I could tap in on for the rural fire?

If the answer to that is no then what's the cheapest or easiest way for me to upgrade mine so it will do NXDN? Is it something i can do myself? Assuming not.

Your 996p2 has an upgrade you can download by registering on myuniden.com for $50. I have heard some traffic sporadically but most calls mutual aid is involved and most traffic is on county fire.
The p25 for pd is yet to be seen as its still in the works for future. I would double check your frequency and ctcss tone for the pd, it is listed correctly in the dB. You should hear them as I can copy them almost to Marshfield when I've went to Springfield and back.

Appreciate the info. What's currently programmed in now is what was available a year ago. Looking at my RSF file specifically regarding Saint Robert and ignoring everything else PL is set to 162.2 and mode is auto. Looking in the DB that appears to be right. So my assumption is then that it's an antenna issue.

To add to my previous post. The previous house the antenna was on the 2nd story balcony and no metal roof. This is a single story home and metal roof. Ive got everything I need ordered to get it at a nice height and above the metal roof. We will see if that makes any difference. Still seems odd to me I'm picking up Pulaski South traffic and not Saint Robert. I live about 10 min north of Saint Robert city limits on 28. But having the antenna outside at a good height is a good place to start regardless.

Second question. How would an amateur go about figuring out what exactly from MoWin is worth programming into my radio?

In your opinion is messing w the unlock on the NXDN system worth it right now? Sounds like no?

Thanks again for the info.

You are questioning whether it would be worth it to program MOSWIN channels. If you are limiting your feed to just Pulaski Co the MSHP Troop I in Rolla would be a good choice. If you have channels in your feed outside of Pulaski Co then heck yes put in MOSWIN talk groups. Phelps, Laclede, Camdenton are just a few counties that are using MOSWIN for public safety. There are a lot of EMS agencies that are still on VHF but many are switching to DMR, NXDN and MOSWIN. Take some time to check out the database.

That's the confusing thing. We are WAY closer to Dixon then picking up south Pulaski sheriff's traffic and Dixon is not coming in. But currently the antenna is hanging in the attic under our metal roof. My new antenna will be here Saturday and I have plans to get it mounted up and away from the metal roof so hoping that's the issue. The metal roof and height is the only thing that's changed since we moved into this new house.

Dixon PD is now being dispatched by St Robert PD on St Robert PD frequency so Dixon PD frequency is mostly silent. Dixon Ambulance is on Pulaski EMS now also.
