• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good morning all, new to Kenwood repeater anything, so I'm posting here to get guidance.

Recently acquired a TKR-750 and 850 units both have a Ver. 2.0 and a -1 under the model. That said did a lot of research and reading and dowloaded and installed the KPG-91D and since my TK-762G programming cable resulted in a cooling fan slow down and the repeater screen to blink before rebooting with the software telling me to check the radio model, I ordered (what 99% of folks on the interweb suggested) a KPG-46 cable.
Cable came with a small CD and several versions of Kenwood KPG-xxx. Since I paid for it I re-installed the KPG-91D software making sure it deleted what was there.

After ensuring the PC talked to the Prolific USB adapter properly I fired up the software, set the comm port (Com 3 in my case) and after plugging in cable to mic port atttempted to read the configuration. Well another error popup to check radio model as well as a "PC" popping up on the repeater screena nd then a restart.

My newby question is: WHAT am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help with my learning

I'm guessing mis-matched market code. What is the 4th character of the software license key? If it's a "K" market repeater (for the US), you need the "K" market software/license. There are also "E" and "C" market codes, with different freq ranges available.

Well I guess that may be an issue "091C446......" Could that keep the radio from talking to the software? Really?
Next thing is how do I resolve that, both my purchased software and the one that came with cable don't have a K in fourth character

Yes.
Since the rules/technical requirements for commercial two way radio equipment varies from country to country, Kenwood handles this by using market codes. That makes sure that the end user gets a product that is suited to the market in which it's used.

Equipment from Kenwood will have a Market Code. US Market uses the "K" designation in most cases.
The market code of the hardware must match the market code of the software. In this case, you'd need K market code software to talk to the K market code repeaters.

The 091C44…. breaks down like this:
091 = Software. In this case, KPG-91
C = market code. C = China.
44 = Dealer software. As opposed to 45, which is "engineering" software. (you do NOT need engineering software to program your repeater).

So, what you are looking for is a software activation serial number that starts with 091K44######XXXX

Next thing is how do I resolve that, both my purchased software and the one that came with cable don't have a K in fourth character

Keep checking under internet rocks. You'll find it.
