Need Help Finding Freq: CSX | Bellevue, Nashville, TN

Hello,

Thought I'd run this question to see what I people may know. I can not seem to find the correct frequency for the CSX railroad that is near my house. Here are the details:

Crossing: 7491 Old Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37221
Crossing ID: 348036X
Railroad: CSX
Milepost: 0012.360

There is a detector there and I just can't seem to find any frequency information on trains that pass through here. There is at least one outbound a morning anywhere from 1-3am and one inbound (towards DT Nashville) in the later afternoon. Thanks for any help!

What kind of scanner do you have? A lot of the new ones have the entire AAR band programmed into them as a service. Or if you are able to get right up next to the detector, if your scanner has close call that might work as well.

Try 161.370 that is the road channel where i hear the detector near me.CSX uses AAR channels 22,66,84.Dispatch will some times tell them the AAR channel to go to.Most of what i hear is on AAR 84 .Good luck.

AAR channels are just like if one was to buy a Marine radio... They are numbered/labeled 1 through whatever, but they correspond, obviously, with Mhz freqs and have just been pre-assigned. Are there transceiver/receiver ONLY models available to citizens for AAR / train freqs?

This is an interesting question.

I am not a foamer, but I've been to the police rail emergencies school twice. What data and in what format do you expect to catch off of that? Are you certain it will fly RF, and not somehow be on copper (or, fiber)?

The subdivision actually starts at MP 00N 3.0, east toward Radnor yard will be the Nashville Terminal sub which has a longer list of channels used. The '220' on the door of the bungalow indicates it's for the Positive Train Control System (PTC) which uses 220 mhz to communicate (Data) back and forth with the locomotives.

Happy to help. If your unfamiliar with railroad radio traffic I'll go ahead and tell you it's pretty boring and usually very sparse.

Well yes and no.

There is a program called ATCS monitor that will allow you to track train movements with some conditions.

The line must be controlled by CTC and is on Radio Codeline.

There must be a kit for ATCS monitor to be able to monitor a specific railroad/subdivision/area. Most lines that have CTC have some form of kit available that volunteer/s have made.

Then the kit must have people who have setup receive sites and then feed that data to an aggregator/server that then allows you to download that data and display on your screen. A lot of areas have coverage like this but a lot of areas do not. If an area does not have coverage then you will need your own equipment to monitor and decode the needed frequencies.

That being said CSX has converted almost all of their CTC system over to satellite from Radio Codeline and can not be monitored. There are a few areas that still can, but they are being converted at some point.

What you can also do is monitor the road channels of the subdivision you are interested in with a scanner. Often times, crews will call out signals as they travel, giving milepost and direction of travel, I'm pretty sure CSX does this at ALL signals. That can be very helpful in knowing where a train is and where it is going.

Another thing you can do is monitor all of the EOT/HOT/DPU channels, that will alert you to when a train is in your area, but it will not give any info on direction of travel.

Your best bet is to join the local railfans Facebook group, if there is one. You'll get the most up to date info there usually.
