Motorola " Smart " RIB
The cable connection to the computer is a standard nine pin Serial cable.
The cable to the radio will depend on Each radio it is to connected with.
This RIB unit can be used as a regular RIB box for RSS or CPS programs.
It's main use is to " FlashPort " upgrade radios that can be flashed. This includes all the top tier Moto radios and some of the mid tier products.
To flash a radio you will need the latest RSS or CPS, and the flashPort upgrade software package for the product you have. This uprade package
can ONLY be ordered from Moto. An example of this is: say you have an XTS 3000 radio and you would like to upgrade the radio to work on a trunking system, say SmartZone upgrade. You would order the upgrade package form your Moto dealer, a cost of around $ 1000 in one and twos,
Pay your bucks, get the package, follow the instructions with the software
and upgrade the radio by flashing it. each upgrade package is Limited to the number of radios you need to flash. One Flash, one radio two flashes, two radio, ect. For large system users a discount package can be purchased from the dealer.
For the average Joe, flashing Moto products is hard an expensive.
The " Smart " RIB has a masked burned micro and a FPGA inside. It communicates with the radio, flash software and a Dongle in series with the programing cable.
