Hello, I am having one hell of a time getting started with SDR. I bought a Realtek RTL2832U which I am trying to use on a Windows7 64bit installation on a Mac Pro (2x2ghz dual core Xeons, 32GB ram).

I know the 2832U hardware works, because I attached it to a Asus laptop I borrowed (1x2ghz Xeon, 4GB ram, Windows7 32 bit). I installed SDR-Sharp, used zadig to install the drivers, ran SDR-Sharp and RTL,USB was already selected all I had to do is press "play" and everything worked.

But on my Mac Pro this would not work. SDR Sharp installed the same as it did on the Asus, no errors or anything abnormal. I installed the drivers with zadig like before. Everything went smoothly.

I then launched SDR Sharp, only unlike on the Asus where RTL USB was pre-selected, here the sound card was.

So I click on the device menu to select RTL USB and then SDR Sharp locks up. If I launch the task manager I can see it list SDR Sharp as "NOT RUNNING."

Nothing I can do fixes this problem. I have tried:
-Running SDR Sharp as admin
-Running SDR Sharp under various compatibility settings
-Verified that Windows is set to never install drivers automatically
-Reformated & reinstalled Windows, fully updated it, tried it again
-Reinstalled SDR-Sharp
-Unplugged the 2832U & plugged it back in
-Tried the 2832U on different USB ports
-Unplugged everything but 1 moniter, my keybaord, and mouse from the computer.

Result is the same. I suppose its some kind of software conflict or bug involving SDR Sharp.

I have no idea where to go for bug reports/help involving this software.

Any ideas!?! Any alternative software for Windows7 64bit that I should try?

Did you try running Zadig as Administrator? I had a problem similar to you and that is what I did, solved my problem.

As a long-time mac user, I would suggest you seriously consider getting another computer (you can a good used one for pretty darn cheap) and natively run windows on it. Although it is possible under some circumstances to run certain SDR/DSD programs with virtualization software, decoding audio can be a nightmare and you will likely have a lot of headaches.
