Onslow County TRS is in rebanding in the near future and I don’t think the 97 will be able to make the change, it does appear the 96 will be able to change using Win96. Viper is present with a site in Jacksonville/Onslow and some of the transmissions are digital. I don’t think the 97 can do digital, the 96 will.

That RS may not sell the 96 because no one in the area will buy it. Other RS stores sell them, also RS's website.

Most RS employes know very little, or nothing about scanners. Don't go by what they say.

thanks fmon !! I was in my local R/S and they told me that they were not carring the 96 any more and the 97 had replaced it. I am not sure. I did notice the price was alot lower.

The Pro 97 is "replacing" the Pro 95... NOT the Pro 96. The Pro 96 is digital, and the Pro 97 is not.

heh I walked into a radio shack the other day and asked the guy if he had any PRO-95's left and he looked at me with a blank stare and said, uhh what's that?

I said a scanner, turned around and walked out the door. Called another Radio shack 3 miles down the road and the chick on the phone told me they had one left, and she was holding it for me. LOL... :p

Did you get it? If so, are you enjoying it as much as some of us?

ABSOLUTELY! I went there and bought it along with the RS800 antenna. Today while I was out and about I swung in another local store and bought the PC/IF cable. I just finished tweaking what I had manually entered into it for the past 4 days using WIN95. Like other comments I've made, its a nice little scanner. Using it to primarily monitor a PUBSAFETY EDACS system here. It's been doing good at picking up other TRS's in the area. I'm not new to trunking or scanning, or trunktrackers. But this was my first RS trunktracking scanner. It hasn't been difficult using it.
