I'm trying to help my Brother-in-law to program his new scanner for Cecil County Fire Talkaround without having to send it in (and pay $88) to complete what would seem to be a simple configuration for someone who understands the technology.

The info is as follows...

Frequency License Type Tone Alpha Tag Description Mode Tag
154.06250 WQAZ613 MFIRE T/AFire Talkaround FMN Fire-Talk

I was hoping it would be as simple as Sys Type=P25>Standard Trunk, but I don't seem to be that lucky.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Create a new System (or edit an existing one). Select type as Conventional, create a new Department (or edit an existing one). Create a new channel, then set the frequency and mode desired. I see nothing to indicate it is digital let alone P25. It looks like a narrow analog frequency.

That frequency probably is no longer in use, They use the MD First P25 P2 Trunking System.

You could also use Proscan or Freescan (I like Freescan because it's free but Proscan has a 30 day trial) and use a computer to program it. I find it's way easier to do it that way, especially if you are a radioreference premium subscriber (you could just import it directly from database fairly easily.) I program these at my work (work at the only surviving Radioshack in the state of Maryland!) and that's the way we prefer to do it.

Programming software is much faster and easier to use, even if you are not a Premium Subscriber. For P25 systems, FreeSCAN will work fine for you and it is FREE! For DMR or NXDN, you will need ProScan or ARC-XT.

MD-FIRST is mostly simulcast, so the 325 might have trouble receiving it.
