(I already posted this in the Uniden forum, but I figured some local help might be even better--forgive me if this is a no-no)
I am trying to program a Motorola II system into my 780 (Scottsdale PD if you are interested). I have read the manual, but the details of how to program a trunked system are still a littel unclear to me.
I understand how trunking works, I just don't know how to set up the 780 to scan it. I am using the arc780 software.
I want to listen to just a selected few of the talk groups available on the system. The control channels are given for the specific repeater, along with several other frequencies. Then, for SPD, they give the talk group numbers.
Do I program in the control frequencies? Or all the frequencies? If I put in the talk group IDs and tags into the list, how do I get the scanner to listen to those instead of the control channels in the regular memories?
Some additional guesses---
One of the control channels seems to be data only (it only transmits what seems to be data bursts). Can I skip this one?
Also, the 780 appears to have 10 talk gropus ID slots per channel. Is this correct? If so, and I want to cover addtional talk groups on a particular control freq, do I put that freq into the next channel, then populate the talk group slots with the desired groups?
Once I have all this done, I guess I tell the 780 to scan say Bank 1, and it will listen to that control freq/talk groups?
Shouldn't the talk group tag show on the display when that TG is active?
Also, I am assuming that the other freqs listed after the control freqs (Maricopa County Trunked system, Thompson Peak repeater), DON'T need to be programmed in the the 780?
When I program a control freq in, I turn ON the trunking, then also have the radio set so that TRUNKING appears in the display.
Am I getting all this correct?
Any help from a kind soul out there would be HUGELY appreciated!
