Need help try figure out how to pick police frequencies

I live in northern Floyd county Ga and just need to know if a outside antenna would help me get the the Rome and Floyd county police calls .Is there any scanner club in the area.I have the Turao Receve made by whistlers electronics. And what would be a good outside antenna to use . Paul Adams

Floyd county uses a Harris P25 simulcast trunking system. So, your old scanners aren't capable of receiving this type of system and you'll need a P25 trunking capable scanner that is phase 1 (FDMA) capable. There are many models from Uniden and Whistler but being this uses simulcast you're best bet is a Uniden SDS series (SDS100 portable or SDS200 base). You should not need an outdoor antenna if you are within the county itself as the system is designed to saturate the area.

Just throwing out a guess here, but OP might have a Whistler TRX-1. On the front right below the display it says Turbo Receive.

If that is the case, he's good to go once getting it programmed.

We have links for the TRX-1 Easier to Read manual along with videos (linked at the bottom) to help with programming. You need to use EZ-Scan to program this scanner.

Just throwing out a guess here, but OP might have a Whistler TRX-1.
If that is the case, he's good to go once getting it programmed.

The OP may or may not be 100% "good to go" as the TRX-1s are notoriously prone to simulcast distortion depending on the OP's location relative to two or more simulcasting towers.

An outside antenna will only make the simulcast issue worse.

Quite so but unlike the Unidens, there are a few adjustments that can be made that MIGHT alleviate the distortion issue, at least somewhat. These adjustments are linked in the wiki. They can be found here....
