To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I tried this at the end of another one, to avoid too many threads, but I think it got over-looked:

My stupid trunking uhf... enough said?!?

I read on the big moto site that it can be programmed with 16 or 32 conventional channels... what act of congress gets it to accept 32?!?

Why can't I get the channel selector know on top to do just that? it is stuck on "Zone Selection (Continuous)", I want "Select Channel (Continuous)"

I have absolutely no use for the trunking portion... We only use conventional uhf.

All help appreciated, thank-ya!!

If this helps, it is a uhf/trunking 450-527, model H25SDH9DP5

Lee - the button & switch functionality programing is done via the motorola rss/cps software. Basicly you can program them to do any of many functions, but that is done via the moto program software along with the rib box and cable for the ht1250. I am guessing you dont have these items so your best bet is to find a local two way radio shop and have them set this up for you via there programing software(they charge a fee for this).

I actually do have the CPS, but a rib-less cable. The problem is when I am in CPS... A ht-1250 ls+ that I did a few weeks ago was pretty much the same radio, but in vhf range. In the Buttons setup it allowed that one to be either zone or channel selection. For this one it has that option also, but it won't let me select that option. Any 'work-arounds' that you know of? Or is it possible that it is something hard-wired within the firmware to not allow it?

Thanks in advance, and I appreciate your original response!

Hi Lee - Ok if you have the cps & cable that is more than half the battle won.

I am not familiar with the LS model programing but have noted over time than some of the moto cps software programs have some strange quirks. It may be something like you have to create some conventional personalities before the software will allow you to change a switch functioanlity to suit a conventional personality function. You may have to start the software and hunt around and see if there is some box somewhere unchecked that may effect your ability to set it up the way you need it to be. Not sure how else I can help out but good luck and please post back if you find a solution & good luck.

16 or 32

I know that moto states that an LS+ will do 32 coventional ,but I have never programmed one that will do 32. All 5AN 's will only do 16 channels. I would like to have the codeplugs from a 7an and a 9an.

32 Channel Models also include: LTR® Protocol - MDC1200 Signalling

Well, the funny thing is that now it will accept 18 channels... 18?!? Where did that rather odd number come from?!? Well, riddle me this guys: If I had a codeplug for 7an (same radio type and range) could I "force" this codeplug into the radio with cps and a rib-less cable?

No, CPS won't allow you to force a codeplug from another model in. Simply, because the model number's in the codeplugs don't match.

You'd need to use the unoffical homemade labtool to force a codeplug in and flash the unit.

where can this labtool be found?!?

Motorola never intended the labtool (or any lab version RSS/CPS) to get out of said labs so from the sticky in this forum:

There are also "Lab" and "Depot" versions of RSS, which officially don't exist outside of Motorola's repair and R&D depots. Both of these software packages allow you to add features & 'hack' options into two-way radios that the general public normally cannot have access to, including programming Trunked Radio Systems without the need of a propritary System Key. Possession of either "Lab" or "Depot" RSS is considered a very serious offense, and Motorola has been known to hit single individuals with lawsuits in the $60,000 range for the mere possession of these programs.

Just FYI.
