I've read the threads..I have the scanner, ARC-XT Pro software, etc. I had it programmed with 4 counties (by ScannerMaster), hooked it up to my PC using the software (connects fine)..I tried adding the BWI Airport freqs (I subscribe to Radio Reference Premium)..It added them to the bottom of the list already in the scanner. I don't know if it was done right, key-wise where it is & how to move it, etc. I took a screenshot if anyone is interested in helping me figure out how to program/set up this thing..I'm 58, sort of technically inclined..but this is a trip. Once I get the "gist" of it I'll be OK I think..I read (pretty much) the "Easier" version of the manual online, but I'm STILL confused as to what the buttons do, etc..

If anyone is interested in helping, it would be appreciated!

Thanks.. Tom N3ZC

Could be because your first 3 posts are held until a moderator reads them.
I programmed my 197 by hand, sorry can't help.
maybe this will get it back to the top of page one.

I'm not familiar with how ARC-XT sets things up, Tom; I use FreeScan. But it appears that System quick key 10 has been assigned, but no group quick keys have been enabled. See where it says 'Enable Group QuickKeys' near the bottom of the screenshot?

If you open up that system, you should see several groups worth of data had been imported. How you allocate your quick keys is up to you, of course, but you must make sure that each group you import has a group quick key. Then for each group quick key you assign, that same key should be Enabled in that box I mentioned earlier.

DMA is a bit tricky with quick keys due to their flexibility - you can allocate them a number of different ways, and each way will be valid for that user. Our FAQ has a decent section on groups, sites and systems here..

Group Quick Keys, etc

Thanks Mike...It's starting to make a tad more of sense..ScannerMaster programmed everything BUT the BWI freqs..I just tried downloading them from the Database here..and assigning them to something. So..the system, BWI, is assigned to System Key 10, and the freqs need to be assigned to group keys? (I can work all of my Ham gear, but this is sorta confusing..probably after I get the "gist" of it, I'll be OK...
)
Thanks!

Looks like it, Tom. Without seeing the exploded view of the BWI system, it's hard to confirm it, but I suspect so. 73 Mike

Turned on keys

I did as you suggested (see below). How do I turn "on" BWI, and then turn on individual groups?

As long as SQK11 (where you now have BWI's system) is active and enabled, I can't see anything else you would need. Like I said before, I use FreeScan, so the screens are quite a bit different.

Also make sure that the BWI system is being uploaded; in FreeScan, you can select/deselect systems that you wish to change. I'm sure ARC has a similar ability, but have no idea where to find it. Once you have that, take a look at your scanner display and see if BWI is being scanned. From where you are, you should have little trouble getting approach/departure stuff....73 Mike

[edit] Oh yes, turning systems and groups on/off - in the FAQ I linked for you, there's a link for the Easier to Read manual for the 996XT. You'll find lots of answers there...

Thanks Again!

So..it's pretty much plan your setup, and not just doing it on "the fly". Yes..The Easier To Read 996XT Manual..I'm waiting for ScannerMaster to get the actual book version back in stock (I sorta have gone thru the online version..still sort of a lot to read)

...and..I'm getting ready for DX0DX (Spratley Islands, hopefully this weekend...how bout' you!)

After a bit you should be able to do this on the fly. I had to redo my initial load (which I did myself) several times before I got one that I liked. ALWAYS back up your last configuration so that if you royally mess something up, you can revert it back. I've since done several configurations for myself (I travel to NJ and Pa. from time to time), and a couple for others who wanted to see what I had done...

The scanner has many different functions, so yes, there's a lot to read. Take your time and you'll do just fine. I'm sure you're not the only one knashing his/her teeth about the printed version of the guide being out of stock...

Being a caveman, no Spratley Islands for me, I'm afraid. When I scare up enough money I want to get on the W4RT online remote base system so I can do some HF, but it's nothing like having your own radio in your home, to be sure
