I use to have a RS mag mount antenna I run with no problems and now I got a maxrad tri band antenna i mountied to my toolbox on my truck and I get a motor whine with the maxrad.I used the L bracked to mount to my toolbox, could this be the problem? Its a loud motor whine I get thought my scanner now. Any help would be great as Im kind of new to scanning. The mag mount on my roof caused no problem but the maxrad picks up alot better.

I would suggest running a ground strap from your toolbox, to your truck frame, or at least to a point on the pickup bed.

I had to do this very thing with my truck when I ran the antennas on the toolbox. I had the same problem you describe until I ran the strap.

I'm assuming you have a steel toolbox, and not a plastic or aluminum diamond plate style box. If you have either of these, you need to run the ground strap from the antenna mount, directly to the frame or the body.

Rat Shack should have the ground straps in stock.
