Need help with Remote Head Model rh-96 to 996xt scanner

Just got a remote head to go with my 996XT scanner, well I cant get it to show the display, it lights up, and says, not connected, does the 996xt scanner require a db-9 plug from the rear to the head? if so I did not get one, I got the other cable that goes from the head ,to the front of the scanner and plugs in? if you follow me, will that work? any one have a remote rh-96 head ,there using with the 996xt ,that can maybe shead some light on my problem, any help would be appreciated , god bless, Bill nbohioham@yahoo.com

That connector that goes to the front of the scanner is a POS. It barely connects and frequently falls out. I was getting ready to make the connection with mine to the rear port and in the meantime I duct taped the front connector in place and it hasn't been a problem since.

Yes, it should work from the front port (not discounting the already mentioned possibility that the fron port and/or connector may be kaput). Make sure that your front port is turned on (sold my x96's so going on memory), and that the control channel output is turned off.

I had problems with my RH96 and my 996XT even though it worked fine on my 996T.

A little bit of digging revealed that the RH96 needed a firmware upgrade to work with the XT.

The remote head should work fine, just make sure that the com port settings are set to the highest baud rate both front and back, there's two different options under baud rate. That should be it to get it to communicate with the 996xt. As long as your not frequently pulling the plug from the rh to the 996, it shouldn't wear out. And as Mike said, make sire the firmware is up to date, if your recently got both, then it should be good, especially of you bought the rh new.

You have gotta love RR! I have a brand new 996XT and it wouldn't communicate with my RH96 head. Want to find the answer? Come to RR and look! And voila, here's the answer I need. A great bunch of people are here!
