Don;t know if my code plug for repeaters setup wrong, or there is really no accessible repeaters from my home. Any help would be appreciated...KD2NXD Robert Eng

what repeater are you trying to accees?? if its he 448.925 N2VUG repeater in roxbury its off the air due to the owner becoming a silent key. from Morristown/ Randolph area I dont believe you can access any of the repeaters unless you have a mobile and outside antenna? What Radio are you using?

As res5cue said, it would be helpful to know what repeater you would like to access. Here is a list of all DMR repeaters in NJ, for your information. It should tell you everything you will need to know about the repeaters, including the color codes and talkgroups active; Not all of the information is correct or up to date. One of the repeaters that I have used that seems to have great coverage in the area is NJ2PC on Garret mountain in Essex county, however I am not sure how far west it goes. I have used it on a portable as far away as Parsippany, however I am unsure of the performance near Randolph. There is also a pretty good chance the Martinsville repeater can reach, however I have not used it before and cannot vouch for its coverage. Might be worth it to try!

Best of luck,
Katt

Tried accessing N2DCE montclair, K1DO Martinsville, N2NNS Wayne, and N2VUG Hopatcong. All with no response. Disappointing that I can't get a repeater to work for me. Will try hooking up my 40m HW attenna that is 30' up in the air to the handheld I have TYT UV380 with GPS. Think it will help? I put all of the repeaters above in a new zone 2 after putting them in zone 1 already. Exact channels. In Zone 2 they all show up as unprogrammed, while in zone 1 does not show that. Thanks for commenting. Very helpful. .....73, Robert

N2DCE is of the air. has been for about a year. and the N2VUG Hopatcong and Roxbury are offline. The N2WNS in Wayne i forget what the coverage is. I can hear it from the mobile a bit but unless im on 287 or in Parsippany in the mobile I can hit it. you would be better off having an outdoor UHF Antenna for 440mhz not for 40m HF. Not really gonna do you any good. look me up on QRZ and email me your codeplug and I can take a look at it for you.

A 40 M antenna is not going to work with the 380 and could cause damage to the output of the HT. You will be lucky to get any repeater 5 miles or more away. Depending on my location (trees, building, etc), five miles is not reliable on a 4 watt HT with a standard antenna.

I've found DMR repeater access from a portable in the Pompton Plains area to be spotty at best. No repeaters I can reliably use.

I bought an RF Shark open spot a few years ago and leave it plugged in at the house. Works fine and don't have to worry about timeslots being tied up with conversations on other talkgroups.

My phone has a data plan which allows me to run it in hotspot mode and use the open spot in the car. No issues with coverage.

Thank you, RocketNJ. I have acquired an inexpensive hotspot (Raspberry) and absolutely adore it, opens up access to the world with clear signals. ..not actually the traditional radiowave communication, so I try to use repeaters again with no success.

Have you looked at the http://www.n2jti.net/ website? It should have most (all?) of the DMR repeaters in your area.

The WR3IRS - Interstate Repeater System listing includes a few repeaters in northern NJ. Perhaps the N2NSA.NET website has a few repeaters of interest as well.

All of these have the color code and timeslot information you need.

I used a spreadsheet W2XQ.com : Amateur Radio: DMR: Codeplug to layout the repeater information in a standard format. Perhaps this method may help you gather and organize your codeplug planning.

HTH a bit.
