Hope this is the proper forum. Take a look at my vid. You see this intermittent shifting-carrier interference that occurs from 3750 - 5200 roughly. Has me baffled. Nothing in my home as I shut the entire house down with the same noise still occurring. I'm figuring it's a neighbor but I'm unsure as to what. Any ideas? Thank you gents.

Seeing that your noise floor is shifting up, and seems to be rythmical, I think there is an internal issue. That is especially so, when seeing how broadbanded your noise is.

Another option is having corrosion on a couple things, and IMI being generated.

Occurs on my IC-7410 with the dipole also. I can also hear it well over my little cheap SW tuner (battery operated of course) with the whole house off.

What you're hearing is ordinary 'spherics, atmospheric noise AKA static. HF, particularly the lower frequencies are particularly noisy this time of year assuming you're in the Northern Hemisphere, things should quiet down come winter. Oh and BTW that sounds like it was recorded during daylight hours, come nightfall those bands open and lightning crashes can be heard for thousands of miles, I didn't hear any.

No, that's not it. I'm well aware of atmospheric noise. Watch the bandscope. You'll see (intermittently) a series of "spikes" or carriers that pop up across the band and shift. I already know it's local to me. I just wanted to see if that jogged anyone's memory as to possible causes. BTW that vid was shot early in the morning. That can go on all day or at times I wont see it for days. Today happens to be one of those times where it hasn't shown up in over 15 hours. The first part shows it with a 2/MHz span and it's hard to tell. I apologize for that. Around 0:53 I shrunk it to 125/KHz and tried to add an annotation but it wont show up in the video. Anyhow right at 0:53 you'll see the spikes I'm referring to.

I know that many newer plasma display systems can supply broadbanded noise. May be a neighbor's TV?

This noise has haunted me for months and all last weekend. Now it's disappeared for three days. Just like the doctor, you report an issue and it's gone for some time.

Do the signals show on a handheld radio? If so, start localizing the source.

It could be bad insulators on the power company's lines, if you have noticed pattern to weather and interference.

Hi krokus. Yes I do. But I'll be damned if this noise hasn't become very infrequent. Fine by me. Please please go away RFI ;)

Video of another ambient noise issue. This noise seen in the vid plagues me at night. Usually starts slowly climbing up as night sets in. Slowly dies down by 8/am sometimes 9/am, but always very slow. The original noise I complained about hasn't returned. Longest absence of that noise in over 3 months.

AC noise?

I had the exact same noise. Walked around the place with a batt powered radio and parked it on a spot where the noise was loudest. Turns out it was an ungrounded AC outlet. I hope that's your issue as it's easily rectified.

Thanks for the info. Yes I need to get back out there with my portable. But I've actually shut the entire house down with no change to this and many other noises. I live near the lake which has many different marinas. Plenty of neon and other types of lights. Not counting my many neighbors in, this could be from several sources.
