Help. I have a pro 97 scanner. Can I not copy any rebanding stuff? I dont really understand all this rebanding.
Thanks for bringing this discussion back to the Utah Forum. You will find us much faster and easier to get an answer from than those on the General Scanning Forum. The guys that answer there are not aware of our local situation.
So now, when you first posted here, I suggested you read
this article in the Wiki which does an excellent job of explaining what rebanding is all about. Basically, the FCC has mandated that all public safety frequencies be moved down 15 MHz. At the same time they allowed use of some frequencies that current scanners were not made to trunk-track. It gets very technical from here, but the bottom line is that some scanners are capable of being upgraded to track the new frequencies and some cannot. Unfortunately, yours cannot.
You could continue to scan as you have in the past, but basically Davis County's frequencies were all relocated to frequencies that are out of range for all older trunk-tracking scanners unable to be upgraded because of the trunking tables they rely on. You could enter all of the frequencies into your scanner as conventional frequencies and scan them as conventional frequencies, but you can no longer trunk-track them. In other words you have lost the ability to follow the conversations in Davis County. In the neighboring counties of Salt Lake and Weber, your scanner has been severely curtailed in that it cannot follow all the frequencies. It will still follow some, but not all. It depends on which frequencies are used.
If you would look at
this thread, you will see that Radio Shack is having a terrific sale on new scanners, most of which are capable of being upgraded to be able to perform as you have been used to.
I know this is not what you wanted to hear and you probably have more questions, so please post them here, in this thread, and someone will answer as soon as possible. It does take time, but we try.
EDIT TO ADD: This Wiki page shows the Radio Shack Scanners so you can look each one over and get further information if that sale mentioned above should happen to strike your fancy. It also shows which ones can be upgraded to scan rebanded systems. A new scanner out-of-the-box is not a guarantee that it is reband compliant, but the upgrades are simple and painless.
