I posted this in the Tavern as well, but I know some of you can't stand to lower yourself to those standards, so I thought I would toss it out in here as well.

I need some help figuring angles. I am making a star for my roof. I have 10 pieces of wood, each 24 inches long. What angles do I need to cut the ends for flush joints so that I have a proper looking star? I know that the Star of David is done on 60 degree angles if that helps.

No spare wood, so I have to get it right the first time.

TIA,

Is it a 5 point star? like a regular star?
if so the angles would be 36 degrees

As for how to cut it i dont know im not a carpenter

Yes, 5 point star. The kind where you end up with a pentagram in the middle. basically, two isoceles traingles.

I actually ended up figuring out that it was 36 degrees, but I think I was making things to difficult. the acute angle would be 36, but what would the obtruse angles be? All angles should add up to 360 degrees right?

Cutting the wood so that I end up with a 36 degree angle is easy, figuring them all out is the hard part.

does this help?

I would take the 10 pecies and make a set of 5 at the 36 degree angle and put them to gether from there

what you do is add all the angles and subract the acute from the obtuse

36x5 is 180
108x5 is 540
540-180 is 360

That is what I was looking for. I can now make the cuts on the saw and join everything nice and perfect.

I had the 36x5 part. What lost me was figuring in the obtuse angle. I forgot that subtraction comes into play because it IS obtuse and then you can come up with the 360 total.

Thank you,
