Hi every one, ha hate to be a pest, but, maybe someone can help me to understand how this works, the 996xt with the gps, I have the gps hooked up , it reconized it , now, do I have to pre program the freq in the banks for it to work, now if I do that, and im traveling, why would I need the gps? it will pick up the police etc. if programed in the radio? so do I turn off something when using the gps? Can someone try to explain to me what im gaining and what I need to no , that im missing, I had another post and someone said when I program a certain city i need to check mark something, on the top right on radio reference, what are they talking about, and If possible, if someone can help me can I call you to try to understand how this works, thanks and god bless, Bill

In short, you do need to pre program the various systems, sites and groups to have GPS coordinates for them, then to have them automatically lock and unlock without manual intervention. The Easier to Read manual has a section on this, and the Uniden TWiki has a full section on how to define your GPS coordinates and ranges. We also have a very good article on Location Based Scanning in our DMA FAQ
