Does anybody know the part number to get a replacement yellow battery tray? I had one of my NiMH cells overheat, swell, and deform the side of the tray. Lucky me, the cell did not rupture, and the scanner was un-harmed. I was able to easily get the dual-negative contact plate out of it and insert it in the black alkaline tray to get me by for now, but I really want to have the proper tray for each battery type.

Thanks in advance!

Just curious; TRAY???? Does the 96 have a pullout tray? My 94 does seperate to two compartments. ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought some 2000 MAh batteries and they DISTORTED my scanner too. Luckily I felt the heat, and unplugged it.

That's exactly why you should ALWAYS charge rechargable cells in a dedicated charger for the type of cell you have. Many cells will get hot when they age and lose capacity. It's much better off to spend $25 on a charger that will detect this and deal with it as opposed to trashing a $500 scanner. Additionally, this means your scanner will be available for scanning if it's not tethered to the wall. In over a year, I have yet to ever charge my cells in the scanner. My recommendation, and that of most, is the MAHA brand chargers. I have several of the MH-C204F. It will also condition the cells so their overall life is extended.

And yes, the PRO-96 uses a AA carrier. You could call it a tray.

W2SJW,

Don't buy one tray! Buy two trays. I use a VERY GOOD external charger. In addition, I have two sets of batteries. I use the PRO 96 until it beeps "low charge". Then I put in the other set of batteries. The discharged set goes into the charger then. In an hour or so the discharged set of batteries are recharged, replaced in the tray and are ready to swap out with the set in the scanner when they die. Really only lose about 20 seconds scanning time, total, when I replace the batteries in the scanner with the tray with charged batteries. By the way, I have a "plug in" lighter charger/adapter for my car. I never run my scanner on it with the batteries in the scanner. Don't like to use the car adapter - but sometimes I have to.

Good luck scanning. :D

Query about the one with a 94.. you must have the 94 B....????

All the other 94's out there do not have a seperation,.. you insert the batts directly into the compartment, and flip a lil switch for alkies and rechargies.

I don't think mine is a 94B. It is the first version that does not do trunking & conventional at the same time. To replace the batteries, IT DOES seperate into two pieces. Two batts go in the seperated piece, and the other two into the scanner body. It does have the tiny switch. Now I take the batteries out when I'm at home and have it plugged in.
