• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

okay heres my dilema, first off i am not into pirating so thats not an option for anyone to suggest, i have a cp200 that i bought, i know that it will take me a while to send it to a dealer to be programmed before that becomes more expensive than just buying the software. heres my problem i live three hours from the closest dealer. I have two questions

1. once you own the software to program is it yours or do you have to give it back after 3 years?
2. what would you do, buy or take it to the dealer every time it needs reprogramming.

I would probably be buying at least one or two more in the next year or two.

Thanks ahead of time.

Once you buy the software it's yours and you will get updates for 2 or 3 years, I don't remember right off which. If you have the software and the hardware needed to program it you do it all your self

CP200 Programming

Actually, once you have the software and cable you don't need any CPS updates if you're the only one programming them. You just have to be careful to get the version of CPS the radio was last programmed with (or newer) so you don't run into the "Codeplug Too New" problem.

I think I would take them to the dealer the first time and ask them what version of the CPS they used to program them. Then you're sure to get the right one. BTW, I believe the latest version is R05.08.

Actually, I just reread your post. If you're spreading out the purchases, then the updates are probably a good idea.

After signing up with moto online, i have the cps software, it was $199 and after gas plus the programming cost buying the software is just a better investment than heading to the dealer every time i need it programmed.

Can you tell me how you bought the CPS software. I need to get it. Can I just set up an account on Motorola and order it? I haven't done that before.
