That's because the portable they are talking about are phones, that's why you can't hear them.

Could be but i doubt it, because when they want to call on the phone they say so. I think its a portable radio.

there portable radio's are linked thru the mobiles in there cruisers, nextels are also known as portables because of the direct connect feature. So as i said, they went to there phones.

R Collins.

ps
If you ever notice, that sometimes when deputies, or officers are walking around you might also see a cellphone on them with there radios'. There's just some things that the public wasn't meant to overhear.

Well when a deputy says he dont have cell service or his phone , and then says go to the portable, that certainly knocks out any phone type device.

Then they are simplex which means it isn't going thru the trunk system repeater and it is short range.

When you go simplex basically you are just using the input frequencies of a trunk system in a regular mode instead of trunk so you take all the trunk system frequencies which are the output which is shown in the database subtract 45 mhz and you have the input frequencies in which you set them as fm and you might find them. Or they might have had some simplex frequencies programmed in in which no one has taken the time to search out.

Also see license WQBG503 for some other frequencies they might be using simplex. They were using 866.3625 [173.8] and 868.5125 [173.8] at the VA Gold Cup at Great Meadow on Saturday.
