I am new to this forum and I hope I am not out of line for asking some questions. How do I get the frequencies for the Broward County Sheriff's Dept., Hollywood Police, Hollywood Fire Rescue, and FHP. All of the frequencies I could pull out of the data base does not give me this information. Please help!

Broward County Motorola trunked system has those.

Larry,

Welcome to Radio Reference!

When you checked the database you were probably just looking at the conventional frequencies. Under the map of Broward County you'll see a link that takes you to the Broward County Motorola Type II Smart Zone system. That's a trunked system.

Here's a direct link:

It looks like the Hollywood Police and EMS are on Site 3 and Site 4 has the Sheriff district 11.

What type of scanner are you using? Are you new to scanning? You'll need a scanner that is capable of tracking a Motorola trunked system. It's not complicated but there's a little bit of a learning curve.

Someone else will probably jump in here that's closer to your part of FL. You'll need a local person that knows if what you want to listen to is analog or digital.

The FHP is a different story. In NW Florida is can't be monitored but I'm not sure about your area.

The FHP is on SLERS (an EDACS ProVoice w/ESK system) across the state, including South Florida. No scanner can monitor this system. This was discussed in great detail over the past few months.

Thanks Creighton. I'm familiar with SLERS and have been tinkering with "watching" it the past week using UniTrunker and Trunker. I know it can't be monitored but it's still fun to learn about the system and see how it works. I wasn't certain that Larry's area wasn't still using backup systems or simulcasting so I left it open.

Now back to Larry and Broward County... The last thing we need is another SLERS thread! (grin)

I just bought a Uniden BCD996T. I wanted to monitor FHP the most but I guess that is out of the question. Sorta wish I knew that before I spent so much. Uniden advised that this was the scanner to use to monitor FHP.

They may very well have been referring to the old FHP Motorola Astro system as opposed to the new system.

FWIW, after a quick glance at the Broward TRS page, you may be able to put that 996 to good use after all. There are some digital TGs on the system, particularly Hollywood City PD and FR; looks like almost everything else is analog for the forseeable future. Now, whether that means Broward will eventually go all digital remains to be seen (funding is obviously an issue, as it is anywhere in the country these days). You may not get FHP or other state agencies anymore (unless they have access to the respective county systems or via the Florida Interop Network or whatever the correct name is), but at least your investment won't go to waste. Also, if you're interested (and depending on how strong the signals are down there), Palm Beach County has some P25 digital traffic on its system.
