I don't know much about scanners but i had a interest from always listening to my parents. i bought a bearcat 210 xw used. i took it our of the box and plugged it in. This is what happened

1) it takes the display a few minutes before i can see the numbers, almost like it has to warm up.

2) i have not entered in a channels yet but i tried the weather function and did not get anything.

I took the cover off and did not see any loose or burnt resistors or other electronics.

so i was hoping someone had some trouble shooting info or has ran into this before

thanks

First off lets start by seeing if that scanner will even do you any good where you live. It is a rather old analog scanner. Where do you live and what departments are you wanting to hear?

1. Have you checked to see if there are any weather radio transmitters near your location?

2. Is there an antenna connected to the radio?

If you are in the vicinity of an airport, you might also look up that airport's ATIS frequency and program that into the radio. The ATIS (Automated Terminal Information System) broadcasts are continuous, but your will need your radio connected to an antenna.

Scanner help

I have checked the database here on radio reference and found local channels like the road commission, hospitals, border patrol, sheriffs. I do have a weather radio that picks up the weather channel no problems.

The antenna is with unit unit, i also checked that area on the circuit board for loose for burnt looking connections.

not sure what else to check.

thanks in advance

.

That's what I was going to suggest. Be sure there's an antenna connected. You ought to be able to at least hear one of the weather stations well most anywhere in the USofA. Let's be sure this radio works. If it does you'll want to know what it is you want to hear. Being so old it may not be very useful.

Hi--It seems to me that you bought the above scanner from ebay that was already in a non-working condition based on all the other postings I've seen on here. I would contact the seller and ebay for a authorization for it to be returned to the seller and also contact your credit card company asap for a FULL refund.
Hope this helps you.

Bct15x won't power up?

I have a bearcat T15x. It was powered on I went to power off and I accidentally powered it back on quick (medical problems, I twitch) now it won't power up, however I do hear the speaker power up. Any ideas? Should I just replace ? Thank you in advance. Thomas..

Hi Thomas--Maybe someone else better technically inclined may be able to answer this question. I had owned a BCT-15XT which was an updated version of yours. You can try to re-set the scanner but it will most likely delete al of your frequencies. If your going to replace your scanner, you may want to look into a Bearcat BCD-996P2 since it is digital Phase 1 and 2 and can be used for the future.
Hope this helps you.

Regards,
Bob
