I jut found my old Bearcat 210XL. I notice the antennae is broken but I notice it has an adapter in the back for an external antennae. First question I have, is this scanner obsolete and not worth keeping any longer? Let me add that I reside in central FL. near the eastcoast of FL. and am interested in listening to my local PD's. Second quetion: can someone please recommend a decent scanner that would work in my area, reasonably priced?
Thank you for your assistance in advance!

Hi fuzzywuzzy1, welcome to RadioReference :)

If you can at least tell us the county you live in, then we could recommend a scanner after looking at the database. We should know if your area is conventional, trunked, digital ...etc

i'm actually going to be moving to lee county in the future and i know they're on 800 so i figured i'd look for you. some stuff is vhf and uhf which your scanner will do, however looks like most of the public safety stuff is 800 trunked so you're going to have to get a trunking scanner. i know some of lee county may be going digital like alot of other places. your county is currently edacs so a regular 800 band capable trunking scanner would be ok for now, but if your county follows the trend and i'm not saying thy will, you may want to buy a digital scanner to be a jump ahead. you can get a decent 800 capable trunking scanner for around 1-200 bucks and a digital can run from around 299-599. what you buy is totally up to you. i used to buy all uniden, but lately i've bought some radio shack stuff which is built by gre and i've been very happy with it. if you have any other questions just ask and i'm sure myself or any number of people will be glad to help.

I'm not in Florida but i still have a 210xl that i bought back in the 80s and i still use it quite a bit. I use mine for analog fire, Helicopter traffic and that sort of thing. I have one digital for police (pro 96) but I dont think I would recommend that radio at this point. Its all about what you have to spend on a digital radio. The 210xl was very easy to use. If you have an extra $500 laying around I would go with the homepatrol.
