Hi, my sister in Fort Mac has asked me to buy her a scanner and set it up for her, I’m just waiting for GRE new model PSR310 to become available, so, since I’m not in that area I was wondering if you Ladies & Gentlemen can help out with providing some Active Frequency’s. What I’m looking for is just the local freq like cabs, police, fire, security, the usual interesting freq. Any help would be appreciated.

Fort McMurray (Alberta Canada) eh'

My apologies KA3jjZ , I had a senior moment, Fort Mac is short for Fort McMurray (Alberta Canada),it is located about 4 hr's north of Edmonton, it's also the oil meca of Canada. It's a growing town, the average age is 27 up there, I think there is about 100,000 people there now, projected to grow to 200,000 in the next 5 years. I was hoping that this web site had a few members from that area as this is a great site. So thanks for the reply, Happy Scanning,

I've had numerous senior moments, don't let it get to you - it happens to the best of us...

In any case, although the Prairies forum does cover the Alberta area, this website specializes in that area, and may therefore be a better bet...

Thanks Mike, I think I'm starting to get the bug again about Scanning, not only will I buy my Sis the PSR-310, I'm going to treat myself and buy the PSR 410 when it comes out. I would consider the Uniden models but without a manual I just don't want to fight it. But I do have a question, it's about Scanner master, and this is only applictable to Canada I think, when they talk about the pre programing option for the scanners are they talking about just the download freq's like on this site. The reason I ask is that in Canada if you go to the Industry Canada website you can do a search by your Longitude & Latitude and you have about 1800 freq's which comes up for that County Wood Buffalo compared to the downloads on this site it's just a fraction of what is out there, so the question is what does Scanner Master use for a list that they download, I also find it annoying that Scanner Master don't have a phone # for those of us in Canada to use to contact them, what they have is e-mail and it can take two or three days to get a reply from them. It would be nice to talk to a warm body. Anysways have a Good Friday night Scanning.

I have no clue what Scanner Master uses for their Canadian downloads, Gary. Personally I would not let any outfit - even Scanner Master - do the programming for me. To me it's a no-brainer - what happens if you need something changed? You gotta ship the scanner out to someone to get it changed? And if you're doing this sending the scanner to the US, there's those nasty customs fees. No thanks.

By the way, all the newer Uniden DMA radios now have an 'Easier to Read' manual put out by one of our members. They're all linked at the bottom of...

The Uniden DMA FAQ- The RR Wiki

As for a 'warm body' - why not try to find a local dealer? Since you're in BC, the obvious way to go here is to post a question in the forums I mentioned earlier? There's gotta be someone who's carrying scanners in, say, the Victoria area or Vancouver. Why fight the long distance charges, never mind the time shift as well as the customs hassle?

Another thing to consider is whether the Fort Mac (and your area, for that matter) have systems which use P25 trunking. Neither the 310 or 410 are going to support that AFAIK, so do your research and ask questions on the forums for your area before you spend your hard earned green on a radio that won't satisfy your (or your sister's) needs.
