Need some help with what antena to get.

Hey guys, I need some help on buying a antena and if I really need one and I know nothing about antennas. Now my town is 800mhz and the area is about 40 miles. I always listen in town but I feel like I'm not getting the most of my scanner. It seems to break up and isn't very clear sometimes and especially when I'm driving.

I have the At218 antenna. Do you guys suggest another?

The radioshack 800mhz antenna does well.

Well 40 miles is really pushing it for an 800 MHZ. system. They are not designed to have that kind of range.

I suggest a mobile antenna for the frequency range that the system uses.

I use a Laird Phantom antenna which works very well in my situation but I don't need a 40 mile range.

One of the two Larsen antennas linked below should work well (note the frequency differences).

True 40 miles is quite a stretch. A mobile antenna for outside the car could could work better in this situation.
