I'm looking for an antenna for my car. Problem is, a magnetic mount antenna won't work. The "flat" parts of the car are plasitc, all the metal parts have to much of a curve to them so the magnetic base on the antenna doesn't have full contact with the metal.

Is there any kind of wire antenna, kind of like the radio antenna's they put in the car winshield?

A lot of the answer depends on;

What bands you want to listen to?
45, 150, 450, 800?

How good of antenna do yuou need on each band?
1 Can hear great with the duck on the scanner.
2 Can hear OK with the duck, but want a bit better.
3 Bearly hear with the duck, and need a lot better.
4 Can't here anything and expecting great things from teh antenna.

What type of car, what other mounting option?
Mirrors, roof rack, etc.

Short answer: Look at this site. Maxrad tri-band [1-2067] using L-bracket for fender lip. No holes in body surface. Run ground strap to eng if necessary. www.bncantenna.com
Keep the ground connection short or it becomes part of the antenna.
