Ok, the subject is a Pro-97 I picked up today. Brand new, new energizer batteries. I programmed it with 3 channels to check it out (local EMS, sheriff and PD). Firstly, I cannot get it to scan, each time I hit scan it just goes to the next one. Problem two: mid-level static no matter how high I turn the volume. I can *barely* hear the WX channel in the backgroun, but it is VERY faint.

ATT is not on. SQ knob does nothing.

Anything I might be overlooking? Tried swapping the antenna, no-go.

Thanks for any thoughts, otherwise back it goes on Monday to swap out..

Hmm interesting, I'm sure you tried turning ATT off. Tell us what your trying to monitor. (Look in the database and give us a link.)

These scanners are line of sight, so if what your monitoring is far away, including the weather it may be normal.

Try loading the channels in different banks then hit scan.

BTW Radioshack is open on Saturdays!!!

Hi

This isn't my first scanner or anything, they are pretty strong signals (city pd, county ems and sheriff) from a broadcast tower about 6 blocks away. Never had problems previously.. They are standard FM and I have the PL tones entered (tried both ways). I even reloaded the preprogrammed bank of channels and it just won't scan them in any way, no matter the SQ setting.

Yes I tried loading in other banks, but with it not picking up WX NOAA when the scanner in the next room will (crystal clear), I"m thinking I need to make a trip tomorrow, just curious what could be wrong.

Hi just a thought...you may want to try initializing your scanner if it still doesn't work properly...Also make sure the keylock feature isn't enabled...and double check your squelch..it's easy to accidentally move it being combined in one with the volume control..do you scan through the WX channels and find the one with the best reception? Not much help but wanted to add that

Hi

SQ is completely non-effective, it does nothing, the WX channels, none of them work so to speak. The closest one to me sometimes makes a very faint whisper underneath the static.

Basically: SQ does not work at all, and I've done the re-initialization. It goes back on Monday.. :(
