Hello all, I recently got a Motorola XTS5000 VHF (M1) and I am currently figuring out what I want programmed on to it (since I don't currently have the software I'll be going to a local radio shop). So far, I have Bank A as VA State repeaters near me. Bank B is MD/DC repeaters, the 2m calling frequency, and the start of simplex channels. Bank C I plan to have all simplex. I'm in need of suggestions on how to program the simplex frequencies, ie for the band of 145.5000 - 145.7600, should I go 145.600, 145.650, 145.700, etc...or go a different route? I'm open to any suggestions or ideas. Thank you!!

The "National Simplex Calling Frequency" in the ARRL Band Plan is 146.520 MHz and it lists 146.40-146.58 and 147.42-147.57 MHz as simplex frequencies. You'll also find some simplex operation between 145.50-145.80 MHz. The amateur radio repeater coordinator for your area may have set up a band plan for simplex frequencies that goes into more detail than the ARRL Band Plan. Since you live in Virginia, the coordinator for your area is the Southeastern Repeater Association and their 2m band plan is here.

In most parts of the country, FM "channels" on 2m are on a 20 kHz spacing up to 145.5 and 15 kHz spacing above that. There are exceptions which you can research with your repeater coordinator.

It would probably be best to ask around in your area to see what simplex frequencies are popular. Unless someone on here is from your part of Virginia, we may not be able to give you the best advice.

I'm in Norther VA, so I fall under T-MARC. That's why I chose the band I did for my example as they have it listed as a simplex band. My apologies, I thought I had said my location in the original post, but I did not. My fault. But thank you for the advice.
