I'm not new to scanning, but recently bought a better scanner for my area and am needing assistance with the county's fire frequency.

There are multiple frequencies listed in the county web database, but all of the available ones have not yielded any traffic. I'm thinking they might have switched to MPSCS (who hasn't anymore), but still hoping there's a frequency out there still used for fire dispatch.

I'm located close to the border with another county, and can pick their frequency up just fine. Maybe i'm just too far away? Who knows

Thanks for any help that can be provided,

As you suspected, according to the RR database, it appears that most of Grand Traverse fire departments have switched over to the MPSCS.

That's odd. A few years ago when I first got my first scanner (Uniden BC145XL), I was able to pick up our fire frequency. This either must've been a recent change or i'm missing a frequency somewhere.

Thanks,

I am very new to scanning digital trunking systems and I could be very wrong, but I do not believe that the Uniden BC145XL is capable of scanning the MPSCS digital trunking system. Hopefully someone else on this Michigan forum can provide some additional information.

I'll take a look at that. I'm pretty sure the frequency I was receiving on was something among the 155.XXX line somewhere.

Thanks,

The database is generated mainly by the public sending us updates. Are you saying that those two 155.520 for metro dispatch and 154.355 for rural dispatch havent heard from in a long time? Are there any frequencies you have in still being used?
155.520 for metro dispatch and 154.355 for rural dispatch

Seen here that they are using G4 digital pagers instead of the tone out system
https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mpscs/MPSCS_Paging_111717_606390_7.pdf

Also https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mpscs/MPSCS_111717_606391_7.pdf - Those counties in red nearest you that 145xl could still be used in those counties, so if you know someone there they could use it!

And correct, the county went digital a couple years ago, you need a digital scanner.
At https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1254 under mode if it lists NFM thats non analog and could be picked up on that 145xl- thats only if its still in service. Under MODE if its DMR thats another form of digital, only new digital scanners have that capability(not the ws1040/ws1065). Under TAG if its deprecated meaning no longer being used or so.

Initial forum thread about them and mpscs

See this one about firegrounds https://forums.radioreference.com/t...unty-to-join-mpscs.318963/page-2#post-2550929

If anyone can confirm they are using these we can update the database.

As I put in the top portion -

Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS)
Project 25 Phase I All public safety operations use this as their primary radio system.

Nothing I've been listening to recently has turned anything up. I'll keep an ear out on the dispatch frequencies, but I think it's safe to say that the dispatch VHF frequencies are deprecated.
