Good afternoon: I have just joined Radio Reference. I currently reside in an
assisted living community just 2 miles south/southeast of Seatac Airport. I plan to
do some railfanning somewhere between Tukwilla, WA. and Tacoma, WA.
I need the frequencies used by Amtrak, Sound Transit, BNSF and UP.
While I don't have a scanner at this time, I can start to plan accordingly after
I receive the responses. Thank you very kindly for your assistance.

While you're waiting to get a scanner, you can listen to a lot of that stuff online at http://www.railroadradio.net/ - select either "BNSF Auburn" or "Northwestern WA" and maybe even "Vancouver/Columbia River" - you'll be able to listen to the audio, and it also displays frequencies and other info for the area you're hearing.

Hey, Karl. No, I never sell them, but I'd sure like to know where the dozen or so others I bought beftwen 1969-1985 all disappeared to. Fell apart or something, I guess.

I used to hear ATK police at LAUPT on the same freq as station services, the coach yards and everyone else, 452.900. That was - holy geez - 18+ years ago. Do they have separate freqs these days, I guess.?

Before the merger, SP Railroad Police around L.A. were on 161.22. I worked for a security outfit for a while, and some of our clients were wholesalers in SP-owned warehouses; turned out that when we needed a blue-suit for a burglary or such, SP "special agents" could often beat LAPD to the scene, plus they would handle the reports and even the arrest and booking. I had the railroads in my scanner ahead of the PD channels.

But I digress. Like that's something new.

Oh, they are on 161.055.....That Railroad Service scan sure is handy...you find all sorts of things. I left it on all day and night and recorded about 20 minutes of stuff.....mostly "LAX457 en route to 8th Street Yard for perimeter check"....then 30 minutes later......"LAX457 en route LAUPT for concours check"

They run more plates than I expected.....I was wondering if I would hear any foamers inside the shops near Redondo getting busted for taking pictures. I dont recall ever seeing any cars, maybe I will have to do a little recon and get some pictures some day. I cruise by UPPD in LA off Mission every once in a while....they use plain wrap Explorers and Impalas now....havent seen a marked unit in years.

Maybe even some people whose names we're familiar with!

I don't remember them running plates over the air back in the 80s; they were peace officers, of course... maybe they didn't have CLETS access then. They do have NCIC "ORI" numbers now, UP has CA0190I and CA0190M; (CA=Calif, 019=in L.A. County). ATSF and even SP have them as well. None for ATK Police though. . Several in other counties, but none anywhere in CA for Amtrak. They must have to do their plates/person checks through other agencies.
