• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all (again),
The local EDACS network techs have LPE-200s with a display page that can show the received signal strength in dBm. I assume this is done with a custom .bin file sent to the radio?

Does such a facility exist for an MRK2 - and if so, what could I do to get that facility activated?

Thanks,
Jason

I don't think so for MRK radios. This feature started in the 700P Jaguar radios and removed in later models without an SC4- SC5 file that is not given out to many people.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
The RSSI/dBM signal strength meter is a standard feature in every 7100 I've yet encountered, activated within the FCC menu. But only in conventional mode, not in trunking mode.

I believe it's also present in Jaguars (KRD and RU series both) and in LPEs but I'm not SURE of that.

I find the signal level meter to be a very valuable tool to me in my work. I have some VHF 7100IPs
and some VHF customers. I navigate to the signal strength meter while on my customer's repeater
system and use it to get data on system performance and range while drive-testing the coverage area.

The meter is pretty accurate (if calibrated correctly per the manual's directions) between -60 dBM
and -120 dBM. With signals stronger than -60, it tends to read on the high side. A -50 dBM signal
will be reported as about -47 or so. It gets less accurate still with even higher input powers.

But that's fine, because it's the range between -60 and -120 that is of greatest interest anyway when
mapping the coverage area.

Yes the MRK and Orions can display the RSSI. They have test flash codes which end in 99, i.e M2T32499.bin. The test codes are not recommended for regular operation as they don't fully support all the functions and features. Look for more info in LBI-39135.

Anyone know what an LPE-200 needs to get the FCC menu working in it? I can enable the menu in ProGrammer, and it shows up in the radio's menu, but when I try to enter it, the radio 'bonks' and exits out. I've tried in both EDACS and conventional systems.

Is there a certian diagnostic BIN or DSP file that's needed? Or just a newer version that what I've got? My current versions are:

DSP RAM: j4p04a03
FLSH VER: P1P08A65
EEPR SIZ: 2K
PRS VER: 22.00

I'd really like to get the RSSI readout in dBm working on this thing for conventional channels, so I'd appreciate any hints.
