Any trunked system received on a RS/GRE scanner between 776-806 MHz is an image of 800 MHz signals

Incorrect. The PSR500/600 are perfectly capable of receiving legitimate 700 MHz frequencies; I listen to them every day.

Legitimate 700 MHz channels at this time have 5 digits following the decimal point. Make sure your search limits are set for 769.00625 (lower) and 774.99375 (upper) with a step size of 12.5 kHz.

I think the important detail here is he said 776-806. You would not hear a real trunked control channel there. The 700 MHz narrowband base transmit (e.g. control channels, repeaters, talkaround) is 769-775. The matching mobile/portable transmit (input) side is 799-805 MHz.
So outputs and control channels for 700 systems would only be found in the 769-775 segment.

This was actually done for a reason, as it allows the LMR mobiles and portables that are 700/800 radios to have their transmit section from 799-824 MHz to cover both 700 and 800, and then implement either a wideband receiver or dual receivers (one for 700 and one for 800).

(A little side note: There may be a couple of systems left in country in the 764-769 "old" narrowband segment, but that is still below 776 anyway).
