not sure what you have now..
I'm sure it will be worth it for some of the other features.

I plan on buying a 396T even though nobody here uses digital.

PRO-96 necessary?

Georgetown City PD and FD are digital NOW, if that's important to you.

But think about some of the non-digital features you get with a PRO-96. Quick PL/DPL decoding, text tags, 150 talkgroup in 5 scanlists per bank, V-folders (like 10 scanners in one), compatibility with rebanding (we think), etc. Sure, others scanners have those same features, but others scanners are digital-capable.

The PRO-96 is a great radio that will be popular for quite a while. So, even if there aren't digital users that are important to you in your area, the combination of other features in this radio would justify the purchase. That's a personal decision, of course.

The Pro 96 will also likely come in handy during the rebanding transition period.

Based on what folks expect to happen with rebanding, you will be able to listen to Motorola trunked systems that make the transition, as well as those that don't make the changes quickly. The custom lists make this possible with the Pro 96.

With the other scanners expected to be upgradable with new firmware, hobbyists will be in an "either-or" situation. Either they can monitor systems that haven't made the change, or update the firmware (when and if it is available) and only monitor systems that have made the transition.

With PRO-96 you can hack the system. PGM bank -0- with Pal800 controller. Enter all known ID's. Lock all of them out except for maybe one or two you would want to monitor. Set to OPEN mode. Any NEW id, either analog or digital will be found in a nano second. Good Luck, Larry
