Just received the latest addition to the shack today, a Icom IC-R9000. Very impressed with the receive quality of the radio. Lots of bells and whistles. Taking some time to get to know all the menus and features right now before its shipped off to Icom for a tune up and some minor repairs related to the CRT.

Here are a few photos,Enjoy.

Nice rig!

Definately a button-pushers' wet dream!

You are a die hard mil air guy judging by the 240.XXXX on the display.

Did your need to mortgage your house to pay for that thing. I know they are pricey and the new 9500 is every more out of this world on price.

I'm sure he will sell it. I told him he needs to go for the new 9500...

This would be even sweeter in the rack.!!

That is a very clean R9000! I've been watching those for years but every time it was close to being affordable it was beat up pretty bad. Even your display looks great, I don't see any burn in.

They have a color LCD replacement kit for those now. Maybe you can find one cheap!

OK, I'm envious. I've always wanted an IC-R9000. Played with one in the Icom tent at Dayton one year. The ultimate "DC to daylight" receiver (without the frequency blocks that the commercial version of the IC-R9500 has). I have an IC-R7100 that I don't plan to ever part with.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pick that up for?

Oh that is so very nice!!

Zguy, your collection is now formidable to say the least.
My problem would be which antenna (s) would be worthy of such a radio?

One day maybe....

The IC-R9500 is the dream machine at the moment- but I do not want to walk 18 miles to work and back when my current car expires. I'd rather be driving a high end Icom!

Regards, Commscanaus!

I'm looking at some custom built logs from KMA. Ed over there has sent me some good looking plots on some 118-400Mhz logs. 12 foot boom designs. We will see. Right now I am using a 8 foot boom 225-400Mhz log that was built for Northrop for test projects and of course a AT-197/GR for the omni antenna. We shall see how the larger logs perform. Most are used to the 5-6 foot boom DPD models. With the 12 foot boom (more elements) there should be 2-3db or better more gain. Sometimes thats just enough to bring something out of the noise that you would not have heard with a smaller antenna.
